This book fills a huge gap in the scholarship on nineteenth-century French sculpture. It discusses a number of overlooked artists and should be one of the go-to sources for any student starting their research in this area.

That said, there are a few negatives to mention about the book. It is strangely organized at times and doesn't clearly delineate the shifts in the Neoclassical style from the Directory to the Consulate and Empire. One has to look at Hugh Honour's book on the subject for that.
