I had a good time reading “For The Love of Pete”. No tears, no frowns, not even sniffles. Just smiles, laughter, and a happily ever after! (Oh wow, that rhymed!) Julia Harper’s latest is a charming blend of humor and romance, with the added spice of some action and suspense. But nothing too ‘heavy’--oh no, instead it’s a feel good read from beginning to end.

Zoey cannot believe what she’s seeing. Mr. Lips of Sin himself is trying to take HER parki...more

Author, Julia Harper grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, then went to college at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she majored in anthropology and took Shakespeare classes for fun. Julia now resides in central Illinois. This title, For the Love of Pete, follows her other title, Hot.
FBI Special Agent Dante Torelli’s mission was to keep a federal witness to the Chicago mob and his family safe until he could testify. Secretly though, he was brought in undercover for the FBI to draw out a co...more

For the Love of Pete by Julia Harper

Contemporary Romance Mass Market Paperback - January 5, 2009

5 Stars

In a typical cold Chicago morning, people are sharking for parking spots, snow is covering window shields and individuals are running late for work. Once in a while, the typical turns into the unusual as detailed in Julia Harper’s For the Love of Pete.

The story begins when Zoey Addler’s freshly snow-cleared parking spot is snatched by Special FBI Agent Dante Torelli. Dante is running late f...more

Sensational, best-selling author, Elizabeth Hoyt does it again. This time as Julia Harper. She brings readers a new romantic, comedy full of adventure and lots of wacky mayhem in For the Love of Pete.

Someone has kidnapped Zoey Addler’s niece, Pete. Zoey will do anything to get her niece back, even if that means putting up with Special Agent Dante Torelli of the FBI. Dante has never had problems with the ladies. He has just never had one jump into the passenger sit of his car and demand he chase...more

Light Romantic Suspense

Author aka Elizabeth Hoyt, historical fiction

Julia Harper's romantic suspense debut novel, Hot, was fabulous! Hot was a solid five stars, as was each of Elizabeth Hoyt's Prince trilogy books.

Much as I hate, hate, hate to say this, I just didn't enjoy For The Love of Pete :-(. I had such high hopes for the brand new release ... but never really connected to any of the characters. I didn't find Dante or Zoey that likeable or interesting. The plot was there, but it also neve...more

What a fun little story! I picked this book up because I've been getting tired of the somewhat repetitive storylines in my PNR books since I read so much. And all my romantic suspense books are beginning to run into each other. I can hardly remember the story right after I've finished. So I knew I needed something different, something maybe quirky. Julia Harper's "For the Love of Pete" sure fit the bill!

While this one did include FBI agents and the Mob, it also featured Zoey, a free-spirited cor...more

For the Love of Pete is a loony adventure tale about an undercover operation from the FBI that starts this whole ball rolling. There is a kidnapping gone wrong, as well as a mob hit man, who looses his son, while he is on a job. His son is not the kidnapped baby, but just along for the ride because of two Indian women who steal the hit man’s car as payback for threatening them. The kidnapped baby, named Pete, has an aunt who tries to save her niece, along with the help of an FBI agent who had tr...more

For the Love of Pete is a moderate contemporary romance novel. The time frame is just 2-3 days in length which— in my opinion — is pretty damned short for that much action to ensue. Harper managed to create three-dimensional characters with realistic personalities. The drama and action is well-written. What I don't like about this book is that it bored me about 75% of the time while reading it. It didn't grab my attention and it was almost a chore to finish the rest, just to see if there would b...more

Special Agent Dante Torelli, gorgeous undercover FBI agent, is hijacked by wacky Zoey Addler immediately following the kidnapping of her neice, Petronella Spicy Hernandez, thankfully nicknamed Pete. (can you imagine going thru life with a name like that?)

Enter Neil, an incompetent (thank God) hitman who brings his own toddler on a hit. And meet Pratima and Savita, two elderly Indian women in saris who steal the kidnappers SUV with their stolen saffron in the back seat along with two toddlers.

This was a really cute madcap romance. When a mob thug attacks a witness under Dante Torelli's care and kidnaps the subject's toddler, the FBI agent gives chase with the child's aunt in tow. But when the kidnapper makes a stop and a pair of elderly Indian ladies steal the vehicle with the baby, the zany plot kicks into high gear. The story was fun and the real draw for me were the characters. From the kidnapper who is more afraid of his wife than his mob boss, to the bickering sisters-in-law stu...more

For the Love of Pete grabbed my attention on the first page of chapter 1 and held it! You’ve got to love it when an Author has the ability to hook you in that quickly. As Zoe and Dante try to rescue Zoe’s niece Pete, they become involved in shootouts, car chases and other tension-filled situations. The main characters are very like...more

Special Agent Dante Torelli (Lips of Sin) has been assigned to watch over mob informant Ricky Spinoza and his family, which consists of girlfriend Nikki and baby daughter, Pete. Zoey Addler is Nikki's sister, and though she isn't supposed to know where the family is hiding, has moved into the same apartment building to be close to her niece.

When the FBI agents on duty are killed and baby Pete is kidnapped, Zoey and Dante team up to find the little girl. Throw in the Gupta sisters, some grade 1A...more

I'm torn between giving this 2 or 3 stars. I read Julia Harper's other book Hot first -- it was MUCH better.

Julia Harper usually writes historical romance novels under the name Elizabeth Hoyt. This is her second contemporary romance novel.

This one was just over the top -- the crazy Indian ladies, the hitman who loses his son, the dirty FBI agent -- just too much. The main character is kinda flaky, but I liked the FBI agent and it was a fun relationship with them getting to know each other. The...more

I think my main problem with this book is that I keep expecting to read a book by Elizabeth Hoyt and not Julia Harper. Yes, they are the same person, but the writing is different and the stories are more stories than romance. If that makes any sense. It felt very chic-lit esque. I never really felt I got to know the main characters. They would talk about themselves a little, but then bullets would rain down and you'd never get a chance to find out more. And man, where there a lot of bullets. The...more

This book was ok although I won't be suggesting it for my next book club read! A funny, romantic romp that starts with a botched FBI raid and ends with a framed FBI agent and a health food nut on the trace for her missing niece, Pete who has been kidnapped and rekidnapped by wayward Mob thugs and two elderly sisters from India. These characters bring a certain "Stephanie Plum" nature to the story. I found the "romantic" scenes to be a little out of character for the rest of the story. It was set...more

In the middle of an argument between Zoey Addler and Dante Torelli about a parking space the kidnapping of Zoey's niece Pete by a hit man, sent by a mafia to kill the federal witness Dante is protecting, propels them into working together to find the kidnapper and the child. They chase after the kidnapper, Neil Janiowski. But things get very complicated when Neil's car, containing not only Pete but also Neil's own son Neil Junior, is hijacked by two bickering Indian ladies wanting something back...more

For the Love of Pete starts off with a bang right from the beginning. Zoey Addler is pissed because her sexy next door neighbor just stole the parking lot that she managed to shovel free of snow. As she is standing there ranting at him a man comes out of their apartment complex with a baby in one arm and a gun in the other. He starts shooting at Zoey and Dante - aka "Hot Lips". As Dante is about to give chase to the baby napper, Zoey hops into his BMW and is already dialing 911. That's her neice...more

Probably more like 3 1/2. I love Elizabeth Hoyt's books but this contemporary was a bit much. A lot of switching around and different characters in different places. I keep up but sometimes it is distracting. You knew that the relationship wasn't the focal point and I think overall I wanted it to be more so. I did like the ending though and wished it was more of that. I do like that I am trying to open up my narrow Regency scope. Just trying to hit the right groove doing it! I will keep trying!...more

This was really between 2 and 3 stars, but I was in a generous mood so I gave it 3. The writing was not high-quality, and several times I found myself re-reading sentences to interpret meaning. There seemed to be some typos as well (how can I get a job as a proof-reader???). The story was cute, but there were some moments where the dialogue was unbelievable or seemed forced. The interesting and action-packed plot held my interest. A quick read.

fast, light read. it was fun at times, but not super-engaging. this is one of those you read, put down, and forget about. seriously. i didn't even realize i'd started reading this only a year ago, until i had gotten halfway into the book and some parts felt more familiar. i'm glad my TBR pile is one book less=room for 1 more!

What do you get when you mix an irate Chicago whole-foods employee with a wealthy GQ FBI agent? A good story made less believable by the seeming emotional disconnect of the main character in regard to the kidnapping of her niece. Otherwise, very entertaining. Some really funny characters that made it difficult to decide who the real bad guys were. The world is not nearly as black and white as we would have it.

I'm on a two-book fluff kick!!! This was very enjoyable, and the copy-editing mistakes were confined to two pages (which makes me wonder if the copy editor dropped a manuscript page down behind the dresser but had too wimpy of arms to get it back). The sex scenes were surprisingly raunchy!

Really more 3 1/2 stars, but it ended on a good note, so I'm feeling generous. :-) This story was a bit hard to get into, but by the end was reminding me a little of Donald Westlake's comic caper stories, with bonus hot nookie.

For the Love of Pete was a whacky, zany read. I chuckled throughout the book, all while thinking Dante was H-O-T. Loved this book, really did. The secondary characters were priceless, and the action was fast-paced.

I liked the storyline, about an undercover FBI agent following the Chicago mob...but in an entertaining way. I will say that the scenes with the mob in it have some bad language. well worth 50 cents from the library.
Dawn ♥ romance
Funny and exciting story about the mob and FBI. It starts off with a bang and action keeps moving right along throughout. Zoey watches as her niece is kidnapped while she is arguing with FBI agent Dante.

I liked the previous book by this author... HOT. That was a hot book. She's definatly a good writer, but this story line seemed meandering. I'll prolly buy her next book just to see what's up.

i really enjoyed this book it wasn't to serious it was really funny and i really enjoyed the characters!! JH needs to write a lot more books!! :D

This book started out as a farce but turned into a romance. I think I would have liked it more if it had stayed true to its beginning.
Amar
Again another cute, sexy read...love that the hero was a neatnik...favorite part for me was the two Indian ladies, hilarious!
