Pine Heights Elementary School has a new student, and nobody is happier than Allie Finkle. In her mind, the arrival of Cheyenne from Canada means that she will no longer be the fourth-grade class dolt. That bright prospect fades, however, when Cheyenne suddenly becomes the dismissive standard setter for Allie's closest friend. What is a girl to do? A solid series about rea...more

Allie gets excited when she learns that that they are getting a new student from Canada! Mostly because that means she won’t be the new girl anymore. But when she meets Cheyenne ( the new girl ) who fins them immature and that they act like babies , Allie was even depressed of having a new girl . She bossed them around and even insulted their game called " Queens " . A game where they had to act like queens and fight. I loved the way Allie wasn't influenced by Cheyenne . She kept strong and said...more

* Review posted on Mundie Kids on 11/27/2012*

I love when my favorite authors write a series that my middle grader can read. Normally, I try to review the first book in the series but MundieTween got so far ahead of me that she demanded, begged, pleaded asked politely if I could drive to the library in a cold, winter rain storm to pick up book four in the series. Because the series gets better and better with each volume, she and I decided to review the one she just finished, book three -- Best...more

This book is about a girl named Allie Finkle who has three friends: Caroline, Sophie and Erica. When they all come back to school from winter break, a new girl named Cheyenne joins their class. Allie can relate to Cheyenne because she had just moved to this school at the beginning of the year. Later in the day, at recess, Allie, Caroline, Sophie and Erica see Cheyenne sitting alone on the cold swings and they ask if she'd like to play queens with them (queens was a made-up game that Allie and h...more

In the third installment of this light and fun series, Allie has fully settled in to life in her new school, and so it comes as a shock when a new girl arrives in her 4th grade classroom and thoroughly upsets the social order.

Although it is something of a relief at first not to be the New Girl, Allie is unsettled by Cheyenne and her high-heeled boots and exotic Canadian origins. Not only that, but Cheyenne disses Allie and her friends the very first day by telling them their favorite game of pre...more

I am currently reading the book Allie Finkle by Meg Cabot. I finished the book a few days ago. I would recommend this book to you if you like realistic fiction. In this book there is a girl named Allie and there is a new girl joining her school and she is super excited. On the last day of summer vacation in 3rd grade I was so excited about seeing my new classmates and new teacher that I stayed up all night and then in the morning I was so tired. Also on the first day of kindergarten me and Nicol...more

4th grader Allie is excited when she finds out there is a new girl in her class. The new girl’s name is Cheyenne and she’s from Canada - which makes her sound kind of exotic and interesting. She’s interesting all right. And bossy. And mean. Cheyenne immediately collects a group of friends - her clique - and labels anyone she hasn’t chosen “immature”. Then she starts a kissing game at recess and begins insisting that the boys and girls pair up and start “going with” each other. Allie wants to kno...more

This is the 3rd book in the series of Allie Finkle's Rules for 7- to 10-year-old girls. Allie's rules have helped her adapt to a new home and a new school, but she has to come up with a whole new set of rules when Cheyenne comes to town. Cheyenne is the New Girl who moved to town, creating drama and telling everyone what to do. Allie is delighted not to be the new girl any more, but Cheyenne quickly gathers a tight group of friends. Allie and her best friends are shocked at Cheyenne's chase-and-...more

Allie Finkle loves her new school, new friends and most of all her fourth grade teacher Mrs.Hunter. (Mrs. Hunter even told Allie’s grandmother that she’s a joy to have in class!) So after winter break, Allie is really excited to return to school. Her excitement builds when she learns a new girl from Canada will be in her class. To assist the new student with adjusting to a new school, Miss Hunter asks Allie to give up her desk, which is next to her best friend Erica, for a desk that’s i...more

Review for Best Friends and Drama Queens
Meg Cabot

This wasn't my favorite book in the world. I felt like the relationship between Sophie, Caroline, Allie, Rosemary, and Erica was EXTREMELY unrealistic. I mean, I know perfect friends are nice in books, but in real life, theres only about a 10% chance that friends will be like that. Also, in most schools nowadays, bullies like Cheyenne whang people emotionally. Like, they have no reason to live, or something. NOT about what kin...more

Meg Cabot is GETTING IT RIGHT with the Allie Finkle series, and this is the best book so far. Cabot gets it so right that I can *almost* forgive her for her dreadful attempt at bodice ripping "historical" "romance". Almost.

Cabot has captured *perfectly* what it is to be a 9 year old girl in this day and age. I have two daughters who are just like Allie- on the cusp of tweenhood, wanting to grow up, but still loving rainbows and unicorns and American Girl dolls and playing make believe.

It's a s...more

Allie Finkle's world could not possibly be more true-to-life: I feel like Meg Cabot must have a fourth-grade girl advising her. The four friends playing an ongoing make-believe game called "Queens" behind some bushes on the playground during recess? That absolutely gave me flashbacks. It's all that dead-on, too: their ways of interacting with each other, their interests & concerns. Allie deals with a bossy new girl who is trying to make everyone in their class "go with" boys to prove how mat...more

My 9 year-old daughter liked this book, but not as much as the first two Allie Finkle books because all the boy/girl stuff in this one didn't appeal to her. I liked the message of the story: it's okay to like what you like, you don't have to be like everyone else, and just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. I don't know if Meg Cabot has created an every-girl in Allie, or if she has channeled my daughter, but Allie IS my daughter in many ways. The model for the cover art even lo...more

Allie thought her life was going pretty good during holiday vacation. Her family got a new game system and she was anxious to share it with her friends when they came home from vacation.

Right before school starts up, one of her friends tells her that their teacher said they are going to have a new student when they come back. At first, Allie isn't too excited about this. But once she finds out that the new student is a girl and from Canada, the exciteme...more

When a new girl joins her class, Allie is excited. Not only does this mean that she will no longer be the newest student in the class, but Cheyenne hails from Canada. But it becomes very quickly that this new addition is more good news then bad. First Mrs. Hunter movies Allie to the back to sit with the boys. Then, Cheyenne rebuffs the Queens overtures of friendship. The worst of it all is when Cheyenne slowly, but surely takes over the grade four class with her kissing games and going with boys...more

I thought thi sbook was good but not the best. It`s about a girl named Allie,Allie is excided when a new girl joins her class, because Allie wont`t have to be the new girl anymore. But her exsitment turns to dismay when th enew girl,Cheyenne, starts telling everyone in the fourth grade to GROW UP. But Allie isn`t sure she`s ready to be all grown-up yet-not if it means chasing boys at recess, not playing queens anymore, and especially...not being herself!

Allie's excited when a new girl from Canada moves in, but Cheyenne is not what they expected. Cheyenne thinks they all play "baby" games, and bullies them into becoming more grownup - having boyfriends, playing kissing games, etc. It disrupts the dynamics of the school and Allie's friendships. Fun, quick read about peer pressure and being true to your own standards. Good read for young girls - just what Cabot had in mind when she started writing them.

We decided to put Flora Segunda on hold to read this.

Mean girls. I commend Cabot for having an accurate eye for the workings of elementary school. Throwing in the Webkinz grounds her story in time, but this business of who to tell when there are problems (parents? teachers?) is most realistic.

Well concluded. I'm particularly impressed by the way Cabot balances the storytelling need for the children to solve their problems, with the real world need for adult involvement. Really, she's amazi...more

I really liked the message in this book for the intended audience. Through Allie Finkle's experience with the snobby and bossy new girl at school, readers are encouraged to maintain their innocence, stick up for what they believe in and value their family and friendships. Yet, the story is told in a youthful voice with plenty of references to pop culture to keep it engaging to pre-teens.

Another really good book. This one covers peer pressure and what it means to be mature while, like all the others, being very funny. The events of Allie's sleepover, with Uncle Jay helping entertain, had everyone in my family laughing (even Deena, who was only sorta listening from a distant room). I'm sad we have only one more book to read in this series.

I have always loved the Allie Finkle books since I read them in 3, 4, and 5th grade. This one was not my favorite though. I didn't like all the mean girl and popular girl stuff. By that I mean I think there was to much stupid drama that the book had a little to much of. But then, I haven't read it for a long time either. Otherwise it was good!

Meg Cabot is one of my favorite authors. I love her books. I love her writing style. It's exciting.
In this book a new girl arrives at her school from canada, Allie is so happy because she won't be the new girl anymore! But Cheyene (the new girl) bosses everybody around. What is she gonna do? READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a great book.

Maxine-I really enjoyed this book. If you have ever had trouble with your little brother or sister, this is the book for you! There are a lot of funny parts to it, but also parts that reminded me of when I get sad in my family or when I am mad at feeling that they treat my brother better than me in my house! Fudge is very funny.

I love Meg Cabot's Allie Finkle series. Its so cute and sweet and I think it accurately captures what its like to be a 4th grader. In this book, Allie deals with some girls in her class that think she should have a boyfriend and wear high heels, but Allie doesnt want to grow up so fast.

Librarian note: AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels).

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flun...more

“Stuart Maxwell told me in a shaky voice that the first time Cheyenne picked him out as her victim for the kissing game, it had been like a nightmare as he'd found himself cornered by the circle of girls, only to see Cheyenne's lips coming closer and closer, until finally the smell of cranberry Kiehl's lip balm had overwhelmed him.
'And that's when,' Stuart told me in a horrified voice, 'I knew it was all over.”
