Revolving cast. Set in London. Gideon is a contract killer on his way to London after a contract in the States. Meets Mrs. Jones on the plane, Lola Mack, and the man w/ the broken nose. Thinking things could be a set-up he keeps an eye on thier gestures and what they say.
Man with the broken nose, Bruno, also a contract killer is contracted to kill Gideon. The story is told over a period of several hours with these 2 as the leads as only Dickey can do it. Snapshots of a fractured life...more

The book that I am reviewing is called Sleeping with Strangers by Eric Jerome Dickey. The Book is main view is about sex and violence and how a man named Gideon gets his revenge This book is a drama novel .
The book is about a man named Gideon he is a hit man that just committed a murder in Florida for a fee and has fled to London because he knows things can get ugly soon. On the way there Gideon has a feel for the women .He desires one women and she doesn’t want him .Gideon Will soon fin...more

It is difficult to build suspense into a written piece, because you must do such a strong job with descriptive imagery that the reader transcends the "book" and goes into their own mind. I found this book to have a fast paced storyline with great action sequences.
Some reviewers voice distaste w/the length of the "erotic" passages that are in the Gideon series--and those passages do go on for several pages at different times--but ultimately, they are effective in...more

I didn't even finish this book at all. I started this book yesterday got up to page 258 and realized that I wasn't really into it and that I was making myself read on and on. Tell you the truth I was getting lost on who was who so many characters and not knowing what was going on at all times. I have read many of EJD books in the passed. As I was reading this book I questioned myself wondering who is this author kept taking a look to make sure I was reading EJD book because I have noticed the wr...more
I wasn't sure that I'd like the book when I picked it up. I was burned by The Blonde not too long ago and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. Twice, that's a type of mistake sequence you don't want to make.
Wha?
The language above is the sort of thing that fills the pages of this book, though, surprisingly, it's not as maddening as you might think.

this was one of the slowest books i have read by ejd, I mean the book didn't get really good till the very end then he left you with a frigging cliffhanger!! i was like wtf, so I went to the bookstore just to read the beginning of waking with enemies b/c i had to know who was at the door, I must admit, i was let down as I read the beginning and therefore I didn't complete waking with enemies.
This was the beginning to the Gideon trilogy and boy I tell ya if you haven't read it you're in for a nice rollcoaster ride! It' extermely suspenseful, action packed, and just a overall joy to read. Gideon is one hitman who doesn't play just ask those who've crossed him! Oh wait, my bad you can't cause their all dead! This trilogy is a must read I give it two thumbs up.
Let me start off by saying; I'm a big fan of Eric Jerome Dickey's work, I'm even bigger fan of sequels. Needless to say I was excited about starting this series. The book started very slow, introduced way too many characters and stories for me to keep up.
The only reason I kept reading is because I was waiting for the story to begin, for me that never happen. I'm sad to say.
I can't wait to start reading "waking with strangers" hopefully this book has a different out...more

Have been a fan of E.J.D. for yearrrrrs but this book and the sequel was not his greatest works. I stopped reading his books after these 2 and Thieves Paradise, but anticipates his upcoming book, Tempted by Trouble. Hope we will get to see the old E.J.D. that I used to love. :fingers crossed:
I picked this audio book up while on vacation thinking that I would have something to listen to on the ride home. This story made me want to ride and ride and ride! It was suspenseful, funny, erotic, and surprising. So much so that I had to buy the sequel! Excellent work Dickey!
If you want to travel the world. Then who better to do it with then Gideon a Hit man. He takes you on a journey to Paris, England, and other intriguing places that will leave you wishing you were apart of his world. Especially, the explicit sexual encounters.
Gideon killed his first man at seven years old. He was protecting his mother. Gideon is now a man and he kills for a living. This is part of a Trilogy and each part is excellent. If you like murders and sex then this is the series for you.
Ok this one started it all, The Gideon Series has got me going in circles I love it, a hit man that makes all the right moves even when they are wrong, and a slew of characters that just fit and make you want to be apart of it I love it.
WOW EJD, what a disappointment. Nothing like the other boooks I have read. I didn't enjoy this book at all. It really didn't get interesting until the second to last chapter. The writing seemed very choppy to me and different than his other writing style. I do like that he attempted to do something different with a story about a hit man I just don't think it was executed very well. There were too many characters to keep with and it seemed more like a tour of London than a novel. I will pas...more
This book is action packed, erotic, suspenseful and a true page turner. Its my first Eric Jerome Dickey book and I must say I was impressed. Thanks Simone for letting me in on this nice secret.
The Character Gideon might have to face consequences when he meet two women on the plane to London and hooks up with them. Sleeping with starngers can cause you to wake up with enemies!
This Was a good book...i enjoy books about contract killers and Mr. Gideon was good...i cant wait to read Waking With Enemies and see what Ms. Lola is going to do..
This book started out as interesting enough, but soon became a sleeper. I was a little disappointed because of other books I've read by Dickey which were better written
I could not get into this book. I did get far enought so that when I started Waking with Enemies I had an idea of what/who was what.
Great Book, Great Character (Gideon) and Great Author....
Gideon is now my favorite character i have ever read(besides Spider-man)

My librarian thinks I'm mistaken or confused when I request them, but I acutally enjoy Eric Jerome Dickey's books. His characters are great. Crazy, most of the time, but great. And it gives me a glimpse into a culture that lives next to, but seperate than my own.
It took a while for the Sleeping with Strangers title to happen. Here I am expecting African American romance; imagine my surprise when confronted with a hitman, instead!

This was yet again a great book which is part if series from Eric Jerome dickey. I truly have read so many of his books and looking forward to reading the next three.
Now this book was a turn from his traditional read and I liked it a lot! London, three ladies, and a killer chasing him!
Dickey is one of the few "sex and shopping" authors I am aware of that is male, but that said, I like him just fine. He's a black author whose characters pretty much live in a black world no matter where they are, but that's great, just another world for me to learn about. He seems to weigh in pretty heavy with colloquial phrases at times, but again, it's more for me to learn. He's also big on product placement, in a book no less.
All that said, take his books for the breezy read...more

I wasn't sure about Dickey straying away from the romance but I actually loved the Gideon series...I want MORE!
Wonderfully contradictory to EJD's traditional books. Had me wide open from beginning to end. Couldn't wait for part 2
This is a great book. This author is good no matter what he writes. I have read several other books of his
Great book with a new character and some steamy scenes with an international playa/assassin, Gideon.
Good book - ending stopped quick so you HAVE to read the next book - walking with enemies...
Eric Jerome Dickey's Gideon series is more than a romance series. I love the action and mystery.
