Offer's book is not a light read, but it does an outstanding job of marshaling a variety of sources in examining the planning, execution and long term results of the British blockade of Germany during the First World War. Interesting as both economics and military history, it also provides a unique view of how the blockade was instrumental not only in winning the war, but in forcing the signing of the punitive treaty after the armistice.
