Celine: People just have an affair, or even entire relationships. they breakup and they forget.
They move on like they would have changed brand of cereals. I feel I was never able to forget anyone I've been whit because each person had their own specific qualities.
You can never replace anyone what is lost is lost.
I see in them little details, so specific to each of them, that move me and that I miss and will always miss.

Two screenplays of such great wisdom and finesse. Both are remarkably short at I think, 86 and 78 pages for 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset' respectively but the gamut of emotions and things Linklater manages to talk about are staggering: repressed memories, childhood memories, false memories, environment, marriage, death, romance, existentialism and serendipity....

It (the series) doesn't speak glibly for one second, it is profound in its language, reverential in its treatment and lets the t...more

I watched both of these movies in my film class and had to read the script (this book) to write a paper about it. I loved both of them! I think it's kind of like a fantasy come true, meeting someone in a foreign city and spending one day with them and never seeing each other again. It seems a little cheesy but the fact the both of the characters are made so human and awkward and unsure of themselves made it much mroe believable and enjoyable.

I will say though, I liked the first better than the...more

Before Sunrise:

OK so I finished with Before Sunrise. I read it while watching the movie. The actors and the feel of it, kept true to the script. Even though there were some scenes that were changed, most of the conversations were the same. It's a nice story that could happen to any one of us if we have the courage to take that chance. The feel of the entire story is very relaxing, just like two best friends or normal people having to talk about themselves. The appeal to me is this freedom to be...more

An interesting screenplay consisting almost entirely of dialogue. "Before Sunrise" felt very much like a genuine conversation between close friends, the kind you often have when young... You talk about everything and anything. The conversations seem pointless, but the clash of ideas and forced introspection help you discover who you are.

For instance:

“I always think that I’m still this 13-year old boy that doesn’t really know how to be an adult, pretending to live my life, taking notes for when

After all what is life but that ONE DAY we wish to live. That ONE DAY with that PERFECT PERSON. That ONE DAY full of life. That ONE DAY talking those beautiful things while walking those beautiful lanes. That ONE DAY full of love. That ONE DAY of knowing ourselves at the same time losing ourselves. That ONE DAY when we realize that we are not all alone in this world. That ONE DAY with that PERFECT PERSON, when we can spontaneously share all our thoughts, all our insecurities, all our wonderful m...more

Have you ever taken a journey alone? Have you felt the thrill of meeting someone on a journey? When you take a seat in the train/ bus and wander who would come and sit next to you? I haven't read the scripts themselves and this collection of the two scripts need to be on my bookshelf like yesterday but I flipping LOVE these two movies. They just complement each other so well. A meditation on life and love, I never thought a movie with so much talk would have so much heart and soul, even when the characters aren't saying a word. Right up there as one of my top favorite films.

I purchased my copy of the screenplays from the bookstore where the second movie begins (Shakespeare and Company) and gobbled up the second screenplay while waiting to go up the Eiffel Tower. I loved that the screenplay of the first movie included many scenes that were cut from the film. Intelligently written and incredibly romantic. Love the storyline.

Ambas películas siempre me generaron lo mismo: ganas de tener un cuaderno al lado para anotar todas las frases de reflexión memorables. Por eso compré el libro, y cumple lo que deseaba.

Both films generated always the same wish: to have notebook next to take note of memorable sentences of reflection. So I bought the book, and it fits what I wanted.

I have always been fascinated by films. The ability to show a story in motion is just to much to resist. While I have studied and watched many films throughout my life, not many have touched me like these two films. The subtle nuances of lost and found love in these films have had a deep and lasting impact on my creativity. When I heard that the two screenplays where being released together, I quickly set out to buy them and have read them over and over, seeing the scenes and body language from...more

I loved it! I've seen Before Sunrise twice and the majority of Before Sunset twice and I loved being able to have the images in my head and almost recreate the film in my mind. It's interesting to see how the actors deviate from the original script in the film to make the dialogue smoother and see how things might have went differently if they had stuck with the written lines. For the best experience, I recommend watching the films while reading the screenplay, it's absolutely perfect.

In the context of the movie - heck, even in the context of friendly text exchanges - the lines in these two movies take on extra poignancy. But I think the words need the 'human touch' as it were to truly fly. I'm not really reading when I read this book; rather I'm rehearing the lines, re-seeing the gestures, the expressions and the settings. Does that make it a successful book/text? [return][return]I'm prepared to re-evaluate the screenplays to 3 stars perhaps, but I think this is more a revie...more

I love these screenplays. They are so beautiful. If anyone has seen these movies and loved them, then buy the screenplays. I only wish I could go home right now and watch the movies back to back.

I liked the movie and enjoyed being transported to a world of spontaneous connection, romantic flirtation, discussion on life, death, fate, and love when two strangers meet on a train. A good dose of romance.

I was really kind of obsessed with these movies a couple years ago, so this book was like lost treasure. there are numerous instances of additional dialogue/scenes not included in the films, and I'm a sucker for that.
Alyssa
OK, I have not actually read these yet. But they are two of my all time favorite movies. Ethan Hawke again! I wasn't even aware that the screenplay was available. Can't wait to get them!

“I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. We always make fun of it and stuff. But isn't everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?” 29 people liked it
“I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.” 23 people liked it
