Not only was this book a real page-turner, it was a biting commentary on both faith and sexuality. It addresses how the two seem to conflict until we look beneath labels and stereotypes and see that, beneath it all, we are all people with hopes, dreams, love and desires - and frankly, aren't really all that dissimilar. In The Rising Storm, Seifert not only masterfully recreates the beautiful Colorado scenery, he also illustrates characters that could represent people that we all know in our own ...more

This book is interesting mostly for what it tells us about the author. There is no subtlety in this book, and many pages are spent with two characters having a somewhat intellectual or abstract argument about their religious beliefs as they pertain to sexual orientation, and to a much lesser extent, gender roles -- all the while in dire, life threatening circumstances when credibility would demand that humanity and actions and dialogue would focus on survival rather than sin and attitudes toward ...more
