December i Kymlinge.

Dlaczego 5 gwiazdek?
- bo Barbarotti rozmawia z Bogiem i prowadzi z nim grę, w której czasami Bóg jest pod kreską;
- bo Bóg ma wybitne poczucie humoru;
- bo rodzina, która pada ofiarą podwójnego zaginięcia jest zdrowo popieprzona i nie lubimy nikogo;

(I read this book in Danish, but I'm reviewing in English. The book is available in English, but not listed on Goodreads yet. See nesser.se for the names of the English version of the Barbarotti series.)

I did not expect to start a 458-page book on a Friday evening and finish it on a Sunday morning. By the time I was about 25% of the way through the book, I was hooked and just wanted to sit and read it straight to the end. I credit Nesser's style of writing for all that. I look forward to the nex

Ganz fürchterlich, was Handlung, Erzählweise und Sprache betrifft.

Ensimmäinen Gunnar Barbarotti -dekkarissa tutustutaan ihastuttavaan vanhempaan konstaapeliin ja päästään kansankodin perheidyllin kulissiin. Tyylilaji on ruotsalaisen realismin hauskemmalla puolella, vaikka aihe onkin sydäntäsärkevä: suvun hajoaminen, salaisuudet ja lopulta murha.

Hermanssonit kokoontuvat viettämään isä Karl-Erikin ja tytär Ebban yhteisiä 105-vuotispäiviä. Eläköityvät vanhemmat ovat päättäneet lähteä viettämään kultaista ikää Espanjan aurinkorannikolle. Itse asiassa Karl-Erik "p

"Menneske uten hund" is very much a character driven story without much focus on Hollywood action. It hurt to read about the dysfunctional families with their roots in the couple Rosemarie Wunderlich Hermansson and Karl-Erik Hermansson who lived in the imaginary town of Kymlinge.

Karl-Erik was a bully. The way he mowed down any resistance Rosemarie might have to his desires was telling. His treatment of Robert when Robert had his accident was also cruel. However, what hurt most was the manner in

Заг ...more

I read the Dutch translation.
Atmospheric and strong characters, but an odd approach to the detective genre. Much of the case seems to be solved by accident, and when Barbarotti does get a brain wave, it's not shared with the reader, so to me, at least, it was never quite clear what insight he gained that allowed him to catch the killer. There was also a lot of focus on the inner emotions of only marginally involved people, and in many cases this was just kind of depressing. Maybe the book was ju

Het verhaal draait o ...more

E invece ho scope ...more

Zo, De man zonder hond is uit! Verder kom ...more

Hörbuch-Rezension:
In Mensch ohne Hund schickt Hakan Nesser seinen neuen Inspektor Gunnar Barbarotti ins Rennen.

A family anniversery ends with the disappearance of Robert and Hendrik, uncle and nephew, but they disappear at different times. Is it related, where are they, why isn't there any signal or sign where they are? By coincidence they find Robert, in a freezer with another body, but not Hendrik. What is wrong in this family? The investigation isn't advancing and it takes a year before there is a new lead.
This is a very slow book with hardly any action. Not Hakan Nesser's best book.

An unusual detective story. I love bow the characters are introduced, and the slight darkness that lingers under the families surface. The plot doesn't follow the conventional crime solving plots, no superhero inspector, no black and white characters, everybody has more shades.

Asi do tretiny sa mi príbeh veľmi páčil, autor to rozohral výborne, žiaľ, v ďalších dvoch tretinách sa vlastne nestalo nič prekvapivé a už vôbec nie detektívne...Napriek tomu kniha nie je úplne na zahodenie, ak by som si ju kúpila ako normálnu beletriu nie detektívku asi by som nebola až taká sklamaná.

Pretty good book about the destructiveness of families. A couple of retired teachers invited their children to visit them in their small city.
