Beautiful art! Very realistic. Wolves hold a special place in my heart and I hope for all kids to love them.I was very afraid of wolves as a child until I read a book about them that changed my mind. I didn't like how the eagle was the bad guy

Kay Winters has a talent and voice for sharing science and historic content with minimal but expressive text in gorgeous and appealing picture books. This is one of her best examples, offering rich options for science study, mentor writing, cause and effect, and text to text comparisons with titles like Jean Craighead George's LOOK TO THE NORTH: A WOLF PUP DIARY that was published the same year, 1997.

The illustrations are beautiful, but the story isn't that detailed and feels a bit choppy in some parts.

I love nature artwork. The story could have been developed to flow a little better.
