A powerful, exciting finale to a most enjoyable series. Coming up to this last book I had some trepidation. Would it be worth the journey? Would it be a satisfying end? I can wholeheartedly say yes to both those questions. First off we are presented with a nice fat volume considerably larger than previous volumes, letting us know we can settle down for a good read. Action-packed, with a conclusion worthy of the eight previous volumes it took to get here. All major characters have their fates det...more

Reason for Reading: next and last in the series.

Awww, the ending wasn't super-special-happy! Serious sniffles for Lucius.

It's kind of funny. Smith really did set it up so that there didn't appear to be a win-win situation - I was really hoping the Bone cousins wouldn't split up, but also that Fone Bone wouldn't have to leave Thorn, but also that Phoney and Smiley would be happy (though I think Smiley would be happy anywhere). It seemed more obvious to have them stay; Thorn HAS to, and Fone Bone is in love with her, whereas nobody HAS to go ba...more

This is the ninth and final book in Smith's Bone series. It did a very nice job of wrapping up the series, I loved it.

The book starts out bleakly; Thorn and Fone Bone have been beaten and locked in the dungeon, Gran'ma Ben is on the ramparts trying to fight off hordes of rat creatures, and Lucius is missing. This book takes us through the final battle, the search for the Crown of Horns, and the events following.

Illustration is in keeping with previous volumes and is very well done. I would recom...more

Bone 9, "The Crown of Horns" was an amazing ending for the Bone series! In Bone 9, Fone Bone And Thorn end up in jail when they were defeated in an unexpected attack by the rat creatures. The objective throughout the series is for the 'chosen one' to touch the crown of horns and set balance to the valley, Thorn is the 'chosen one'. The Lord of the Locusts however (a nightmere trying to come alive), needs the 'chosen one's' body to become mortal. The Lord of the Locusts controls the rat creature...more

There's so much good here. A lot of people feel the end of this series was rushed. I think I understand where they're coming from--there's a sense that too much is happening too quickly, and it all has a huge emotional impact/toll, and we don't always see consequences that we could reasonably expect from the actions that take place. I suspect a lot of people don't like the way the series resolves, plain and simple, and that's legitimate. We all want different endings for characters sometimes. I...more

Thorn has a dream that when she was a little girl the dragons brought her to their cave and then her mother came in her dream and said "seek the Crown of Horns".

Thorn wakes up and Phoney Bone is next to her, they start talking and they learn Fone Bone and Smiley are right next to them in another cell. There are three soldiers and Rose is told to go seek shelter because they are under attack but Rose throws him off the wall then and they realize she is the queen and they bow down to her. The hood...more

The book that I am/ was reading was "Bone Crown of Horns Book Number Nine. In this book they're six main characters, Thorn, Barteby, Phoney Bone, Bone, grandma Ben, and Bone's other brother with the star on his chest. The characters reactions and relations with each other are they usually get along with and love each other, but they tend to argue a lot. Most of their arguments caused them to have adventures then usually with just saving their village. I would say the main setting that they're i...more

Why I Read It: Next in a series. The last volume!! This being the last volume in a series, there's the possibility of there being spoilers for earlier volumes (though I will try to avoid it as much as possible).

Aaahh, the last volume of the Bone series. We had a rollicking time, didn't we Bone? At first I wasn't that into you, but then you went and became pretty awesome. And then THIS volume happened AND HOLY CRAP!! Seriously, this volume was SO GOOD and makes up a...more

This is sadly the last book in the series. Thorn starts of having these horrible dreams, where her dead mother is telling her to seek the "crown of horns" Then I war starts breaking out with the rat creatures. The only way to stop the war is if Thorn touches the crown of horns. The crown of horns could easily kill thorn if she touches it. Does Thorn die, and does the war ever stop? and will the Bones ever leave to Boneville again?
I can relate this book, with another of the bone books. I can rela...more

Brilliant series. It came recommended from a friend, and in all honesty I thought I'd at best like it, at worst have to hedge about hating it, but it was genuinely one of the most enjoyable things I've read since the beginning of this term.

To begin with, the Bones are perfect. And hilarious. Like, guffaw-out-loud-in-the-middle-of-class-hilarious (not the best idea, really). Smiley is so adorable I want to adopt him, Fone Bone grows on you despite his righteousness, and even annoying Phoney Bone...more

War has come. The Lord of the Locusts could return anytime. Thorn has to find the Crown of Horns. But time is running out. They have to act quick if they want to stop the Lord of the Locusts.

Well, I've finally finished the Bone series and all I can say is wow. I've loved every volume and I have nothing bad to say about this series. It's funny and has a really great story with great characters. The story, to me, is about being there for those you care about.

I have so much I want to say about this...more

I am finished reading Bone #9 Crown of Horn by Jeff Smith.

This book is the last book in the Bone series. It was a great ending to a great graphic-novel series. This book the the longest one in the series, it being the last one as well. The ending was good because Bone and his cousins return to Boneville and Thorn is now a queen. The battles in this one were very climatic and interesting to read. It is a short book still, and it is also a page turner kind of book that you don't want to put down...more

Recently i finished Bone #9. I thought that Bone was one of the most intriguing book series I've read yet. It's filled with hilarity and action from start to finish. The basis of the book revolves around the evil beings in the story series (Rat Creatures, Roque Jaw, The Hooded One, King Dock) but the evil being the story revolves on is the uprising Lord of the Locusts the trilogy of the story revolves around the constant flow of war between the Valley People and the Rat Creatures and things just...more

This is a comic novel book, it is the last book in its series. I thought this book was really good. This book had lots of adventure and action in it. I read this book in a day so its a really quick to read book.

My favorite part is smiley bone because he is sort of funny and he can fight better than the other bones. My favorite part of this book is when Fone Bone and Thorn got to the dragons cave and get to the crown of horns. The crown of horns is a big glowing rock that kills evil or somethin...more

Somehow I missed the Bone series as it was coming out, though I'd read Cerebus and Elfquest earlier. I guess by the '90s I was burned out on epic fantasy, and the "big name" graphic novels (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, etc.) really repulsed me with their old-school drawing style.

I'm sure I won't be the first to say that Bone is like the characters from Pogo, dropped into a valley-scale microcosm of Middle Earth—in terms of not only characters and action (there's a cow race, and there's also an Evil...more

This is a review of all nine volumes of Bone.

I'm not as wild about this series as some people seem to be.

While the artwork is spectacular, the story takes forever to arrive at what I thought was a rather unsatisfying conclusion.

Too many of the books featured the main characters being chased over hill and dale by one manner of large scary creature or another. I know that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination, but to me...they just kept wagon training.

So three-stars from m...more

Bone #9: Crown of Horns, is about Bone a character in the book and he is supposed to save the world from the locusts so that the world doesn't crumble. The main character is Bone and the setting is in the city. Bone's main internal conflict is that he is having a hard time trying to find the crown of thorns. His external conflict is him dealing with the locusts.

When I read this book I made a text-to-self connection. When Bone is trying to find the crown of thorns its reminds me when was trying t...more

Bone: Crown Of Horns (Vol. 9) wraps up the adventure for Fone Bone, Smiley Bone and Phoney Bone. This was a good ride and I was glad to have finally read the story that I've been hearing about for years. If I take anything away from this series it's a new favorite character: Phoney Bone. Haha. I love this cool cat.

*Spoiler Alert*

As for the story within Volume 9 I thought the whole idea of all the dragons attacking the Queen Dragon, Mim was pretty cool. Also, I thought Jeff Smith did a really goo...more

Bone, Volume 9: Crown of Horns, by Jeff Smith was a fascinating read that served as the conclusion of the Bone series. In this volume, a full-fledged war ensues as Briar, the rat creatures and the Pawan army invade the city of Atheia, the royal city. In order to defend their beloved city, Fone Bone and Thorn embark on an epic quest in search of the Crown of Horns, which they considered to be their last hope in winning the battle. The book, which is 212 pages in total, was fast-paced, action pack...more

And so finally it comes to an end. After looking at a few other comics, I've come to appreciate just how good the artwork is in the Bone comics. There's real acting on the page - from the expressions on characters faces to the way they use their bodies, Jeff Smith is a master. And the flow from panel to panel is so clear - action is never confusing. Often I'd go back and forth between 2 or 3 panels taking in all the details of the action. For example, the arrows from a minor character leaving th...more

The final installment of the Bone saga was the absolute best one in the entire set. I've been reading this series for almost a year now, the limiting factor being that I wanted to track down the color copies of each installment (I buy mainly from used bookstores, so it took some timing and luck to get all 9). It was well worth the wait. I know they sell this entire series in one massive black-and-white compendium, but in my opinion the color really adds an extra special something that's worth ad...more

This review applies to the entire Bone series, Vol. 1-9: Loved it, absolutely loved it! I'd known of Bone and seen it on shelves in bookstores for years, but I had never bothered to read it before. The (deliberately) cartoony quality of the three main Bone characters made me think that it was aimed more at kids than at me. (Such was my impression from the cover art. I had no idea there were human characters until I saw Thorn's first appearance several pages in.) It is an all-ages comic, but it's...more

Reprints Bone #50-55. The Bones, Gran'ma Ben, Thorn, Lucius, and the Red Dragon have their final battle with the Lord of the Locust for the fate of the Valley and the world. The last Bone book is bittersweet in that it is sad to see the series end (although now Smith is talking about some post "Bone" series). The book tries to mix in as much humor as possible which is difficult because of serious nature of the story arc. It does feel fulfilling to finish the series and doesn't feel like it didn'...more

I have been reading Bone since 1996, when I got to take home the review copy of The Great Cow Race that was sent to the paper I was interning at. Every now and then I run into a new book and devour it. It's been fun only reading them as I see them in libraries, book stores, and friends' houses.

Finally I bumped into Book 9 at Atticus. Now, I have to go back and read them all. I was in tears. How wonderful that good triumphed and that Phine Bine lost the treasure. But poor rat creatures never go...more

A fantastic end to an incredible series. Volume 9 is action-packed, and all the tangents that Smith set up in the earlier volumes are resolved here. Overall, the Bone series is awesome: the characters are not only sympathetic, they are lovable; the plot is evenly paced and fully developed; and each volume ends with a cliffhanger that leaves the reader wanting more. I'm glad that I chose to read the series in the colored volumes rather than the black and white collected version because the artwor...more

Sebuah akhir dari perjalanan tiga sepupu Bone: Fone Bone, sang pencinta, yang jatuh hati pada Thorn, sang 'putra mahkota', dan bersedia berkorban menemani Thorn mencari apa yang disebut 'Mahkota Tanduk' demi membinasakan sang Raja Belalang; Phoney Bone, sang oportunis sejati, yang berusaha 'menempel' Ratu Rose agar selamat dalam peperangan dan, sang pencari harta ulung, yang bahkan mampu menebak lokasi 'Mahkota Tanduk' hanya dari perilaku sang naga; serta Smiley Bone, sang 'kaki tangan' Phoney B...more

As with all the Bone collections, I flew through the finale in one night. Smith provides a quick read because he's able to tell so much of the story through the illustrations, providing the complete experience of reading a comic. Jeff Smith's pacing and lighthearted
comedic sense calls to mind the playfulness and simple happiness of Bill Waterson's Calvin and Hobbes. Crown of Horns completes the story that could never be long enough or contain enough chapters, and I closed the last cover of the...more
