My second book in a row (after Kendra) about girls with boundary issues, and I enjoyed this one almost as much. the characters are so unique and full - I know so many guys like Frankie. Each character is flawed but real, and the plot, dialogue, everything is really strong. A hidden gem!

This novel stretched my mind more than most. First was the format of the novel. The beginning of each chapter includes both a right-side up and an up-side down printing., as does the cover of the book. Furthermore, even numbered pages are upside down at the top of the page; odd numbered pages are right-side up at the bottom of the page. Even the dedication has a mirror upside-down image.

Robin is a "piggy" as she refers to herself. You never know just how big she is, but the n More...

What I liked: Johnson packs a lot into this fast-paced, 185-page novel. Robin handles sexuality, queerness, race, and infidelity in a way that is believable and true to her character. Although some people might find the plot overdramatic or too sexual, it felt very true to me in terms of how teenagers explore and understand sex. It wasn't done in a shocking or a provocative way. Johnson doesn't wrap everything up at the end, either, which I also liked. I think my favorite part was how Robin disc More...

The Parallel Universe of Liars is an okay book. The layout might be a little hard and annyoing to seem people and I agree. I liked the story of the book whoever Robin, although her with her background and her point-of-view on things seem fitting, was very hard for me to relate to and like. Robin has a very harsh point of view on people (including herself) and it was very hard to me to like her. Even when Robin liked things the word choicing was poor for (which I guess is part of her charater) an More...

Wow. This book was amazing. The character was so easy to fall into, I was within her world by page 2. It was graphic at times, but it needed to be. Frankie bugged me, though. I wanted him to just totally vannish for most of the book. It was SO unfair what he did to Robin. Ugh. And the ending was unsatisfactory. I wanted Tri to come back! And what about Melissa? Ehhhh. The ending left a LOT open. And while normally I like some open-endedness to a book, this was beyond my happiness zone.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is one of the most provocative and disturbing books I've ever read geared for young people, one I would not recommend to any young person. Devoid of any positive portrayal of adults, morality, kids, or their "leanings," while full of clever phrasing and some "good" jokes, I found myself feeling empty at the conclusion. Maybe it's because I'm older (or odder?), but unlike Catcher In The Rye, there is no sense of hope or redemption. I More...

Wonderful book. I haven't read many books where the characters where involved in these sort of situations, and it definitely made an impression. The obscurity only stretches the mind, and helps you understand how the mind of a young woman works. Very quick and enjoyable read.

This book was filled with many twisted engagements from a dysfunctional family. Although this book was quite interesting, I would have given it a higher rating if the ending had not left me hanging. It left me curious on what happens between her and Tri.

This book was just so amazing. Robin's story was such a page turner. The path she takes to find herself was a long and bumpy one. The drama portrayed in this novel was great. I love how Johnson can almost make you feel what Robin feels throughout the novel.

I really liked it...I had a hard time putting it down....however I did not like how it ends it makes me think there is going to be a sequel...there is so much more that could happen....what happens to Tri and Frankie and Dick and Janice?

An almost... awkward read. I found the circumstances implausible and while there was character development, it was a little forced.
Not a favourite, and I probably won't read it again.

Age 14+. An "Are you there god, it's me Margaret" for freshmen in High School. Semi-explicit sexual situations, morality conundrums, racial questions.

I only read to page 20 of this book, but I wish I wouldn't have even done that.
It was sort of like a bad Paula Danzinger novel. It was really, really bad.

I found this book quite inappropriate. It was this little girl wanting sex. This book also shows cheating and lying.

Would have got a higher rating, but the tale is so disquieting, I can't even really review it.

This book was like a porno for kids. Seriously. That's all it was about, sex, sex, sex. I'm not even entirely sure what sort of lesson is supposed to be taken from this. I think perhaps Johnson was trying to teach kids to be themselves and not act a certain way to get attention. But honestly, the only thing I can remember from it are the extremely detailed sex scenes. It isn't an entirely bad book though. I'd just recommend you read it before you let you're kid read it.

This wasn't a quick read for me, but I did like it. I was leaning toward 3 1/2 stars when I was reading, since it took me over a week to finish, but now that I'm done I'm more impressed. Lots of good thoughts about relationships, and very frank talk about sex, which I would have absolutely loved at 13 or so. The main character isn't real likeable, but she does seem fairly real. I definitely enjoyed reading the discussion questions and interview with the author at the end of this edition.

A student recommended this book to me, and I was surprised that she was comfortable sharing this with me - lots of cheating and sexual experiences. I am glad I read it to have a sense of what teens are reading, but I do not recommend it to others (especially teens).

What a cast of dyfunctional characters- and the protagonist almost can't help but be drawn into the parallel universe of lying!!!
