The Tale of Mr. Tod (The World of Beatrix Potter: Peter Rabbit)
To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques.

This was alright. It wasn't as cute as most of the other Beatrix Potter books I've read. It was a lot longer than the others, but that didn't improve it for me. I felt that for the length, there wasn't much happening. Especially the stunt with the pail of water seemed drawn out. There wasn't enough cute bunnies and the two villains weren't bad enough. Few color illustrations for the length.
Of all the Potter stories, I think that this one was one of the most disturbing. I can't even imagine what I would do if someone stole my children with the intent of making them their next meal. Of course, in the end, all is well and good.
This is quite a lengthy story, compared with other tales written by Beatrix Potter. There are more black and white illustrations than the colorful ones, too. Perhaps it's targeted for children who progress into a slightly upper level of reading.
This tale sees the return of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they rush to save Benjamin's children from Tommy Brock who has rabbit-knapped them for a pie and taken over one of Mr Tod's many homes. Longer than some of Potter's previous tales, this is still a beautifully written and illustrated story that will appeal to adults and children alike
Another quite strange story, although funny in places. It was nice to read a longer story with some fleshed out villains.

I always get a bit of a thrill reading about Mr Tod!
Very scary. My children loved it. We got the shivers!!
I can't give this a rating because we didn't finish it. It bored us to tears. We have read three Beatrix Potter stories and enjoyed them, but this is MUCH longer than her normal stories. The length combined with the difficulty of sentence structure and vocabulary meant that this was not a very good bedtime story. (Or maybe it was, since it put us to sleep rather quickly!)

I loved the sinister aspects of this story as a child, although of course it's not Mrs. Tiggywinkle!
