Shelves: history, biography
A good book, if somewhat academic. Including Milton, John and David broadened the interest, but--other than Milton--added little to the volume. Heavily political, but Ike and Milton were political men. Still, all the election maneuvering by others bores if not distracts.

My chief criticism is the obvious injection of Neal's opinions on civil rights and Vietnam. His coloring of Dwight Eisenhower's positions will strike some of revisionist history.

Born in 1949, Steve Neal earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University. During his career in journalism, he worked for a number of newspapers, most notably as a political columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times.
