This is not a typical Dickens novel. The themes are more dark and sinister, and the characters experience a lot of disappointment and violence without the usual happy ending. There are of course some moments of brotherly love and devotion, and I suppose the good characters seem even better when contrasted with the twisted and depressing characters of Estella and Mrs. Havisham. I enjoyed reading this book. It was very real and Dickens is of course an exceptional writer to say the least. But if yo ...more
