Recommends it for: beginning readers and parents reading with them
This is a fun and simple mystery that helps encourage beginning readers. The narrative is fairly short and simple and the illustrations are big and colorful. I love that they visit the library in this story. We've enjoyed reading the books in The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner. This is the eleventh book in The Adventures of Benny and Watch, a series of early readers for younger children who aren't yet ready for chapter books. Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in Putnam, Connecticut, on April 16, 1890, to Edgar and Jane Warner. Her family included a sister, Frances, and a brother, John. From the age of five, she dreamed of becoming an author. She wrote stories for her Grandfather Carpenter, and each Christmas she gave him one of these stories as a gift.
