P&P Redux from Mr. Darcy's perspective...and then some!

Mr. Darcy. That iconic romantic hero who launched a thousand sequels! A quick and very unscientific audit of Amazon.com listings revealed over thirty-five books published in the last fifteen years inspired by him! That’s a lot of Mr. Darcy out there being a haughty heartthrob. Now in his latest outing, Darcy’s Passions: Pride and Prejudice Retold Through His Eyes, we are offered yet another chance to relive the famous love story, More...

I found this completely ridiculous. I really did. I feel like it was too modern in how much it showed us of certain situations, it was linguistically ridiculous, and generally just too much. There's a page on which the author has Darcy saying (through narration) that there is a saying that a single man in possession of a fortune must be in want of a wife. Actually, that's not a saying. Maybe it is now, among Austen fans, but it wasn't back then, to Darcy. It wasn't exactly a phrase heard r More...

I am dissappointed, but was entertained in some parts of this story. I tried so hard to like this book. Do yourself a favor if you do read this, and DO NOT read the preface. All I could think of while I read this is that it was just a fanfiction, something that should have been posted on the internet and not published. (I also tried to imagine that the author wasn't speaking for our dear Mr. Darcy - but I could not get her out of my head when he spoke!) It's not that I didn't like Darcy, bu More...

A must for Jane Austen fan’s, this novel captures much of the magic presented by Pride and Prejudice, giving it that familiar appeal that the world’s most beloved love story always had.

It is a perfect premise; the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy told through the eyes of the man. We’ve read Lizzy’s version in Austen’s work, but Jeffers introduces the story anew through the eyes of the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. What follows is the story all Austen fans love, but which we’re still no More...

Much like reading the regular Pride & Prejudice this book has turned on my obsession. My husband can attest to the fact that once I get on a P&P jag, nothing will assuage it. I just have to let it run its course. This means I have already watched the entire 5 hour BBC mini-series & have plans to read Pride & Prejudice again... and maybe even re-read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies just to really work it all out... and then maybe watch the BBC miniseries again because really who doesn't find Colin Fi More...

Jeffers starts with a preface that presents an interesting idea. She makes the point that Darcy is both a hero and a villain in this story as he goes from disdainful pride to benevolent rescuer. I like this idea because most people only think of Wickham as the villain in the story. It makes you look at Darcy in a new light - and not a totally adoring one.

My only real complaint about the book was the vocabulary and the insane length of the paragraphs. It was if she was purposely u More...

This book vacillated between two and maybe three and a half stars for me. The author did a good job of fleshing out the story while sticking to Jane Austen's framework. She paraphrases from the original, which I don't mind, but sometimes ends up changing the intent. (The original is better.) It begins just after Bingley has taken Netherfield Park, and ends with a New Year's party at Pemberley two months after the weddings. The last third of the book covers those two months. Here is where it got More...

This is a lovely read. It starts off by retelling most of P & P and then goes 2 months into Darcy and Lizzy’s marriage. You can see how much they really love each other and some very funny parts. This is a small series by Regina Jeffers and I am looking forward to the next book.

While the book started out okay, in the end, it became a cliff's notes version of Pride and Prejudice. There was no real insight into Darcy's thoughts or feelings--what little elaboration there was seemed shallow and superficial. Also, Darcy's relationship with his sister bordered on creepy. The author's writing was awkward and hollow. She was trying to hard to emulate Jane Austen's style, but it lacked the sparkle and originality that Austen's style always has.

To be fair, I nev More...

After reading P D James Murder In Pemberley I thought I'd give another Austen spin-off a try. The first 2/3s of the book I would give a 4+ stars but the storyline after their marriage caused that third to be rated at most 2 stars. The story after the marriage was just too predictable. The author in trying to make everything absolutely divine for all the characters just didn't work for me. It just seemed to repeat and repeat about "real love" and their ardor for each other. Then having More...

Although it can't compare in quality to the novel on which it is based (Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice), this is a well written book that closely follows the original P&P story, but offers Darcy's viewpoint rather than Elizabeth Bennet's.

There are a few minor discrepancies from the original and some additions to dialogue that might irk P&P fans. The story continues past the end of P&P until a few months into the marriage of Elizabeth and Darcy.

This is an well-written, More...

I really liked the first three-quarters of the book. I thought she did a good job on interweaving Austen's dialogue with her own ideas of what happened off the pages to Mr. Darcy. She kept fairly true to Darcy's character and didn't even wildly extravagant plot lines, so it was fairly believable. The reason I only gave it three stars instead of four, though, was twofold. One, some of the writing was a little overly dramatic. Also, I agreed with other reviewers that the last quarter, after t More...

This felt like reading Cliff notes of Pride and Prejudice. The author summarizes in paragraphs what is going on and when she did directly "quote" from P&P's text she usually paraphrased. Why would you do that? It still felt like Cliff notes even during the parts that P&P does not cover such as times when Darcy and Elizabeth are apart. There wasn't much new insight, there was some but not enough, to the character of Darcy or most of the others. I don't believe I will be reading any More...

This is definitely a failed attempt to relive the passion of Mr. Darcy & Ms. Bennet. While I am still a fan of THE Pride & Prejudice by Austen, this book ruined the immortal love team for me and soured the beautiful picture I have of the strong willed heroine, and the proper Mr. Darcy. It is full of romantic drivel, I could groan and cry! Even the cheese isn't this cheesy. Darcy's Passion didn't make the characters better, but made them fumbling fools. Through the story, I kept waiting for i More...

As a Pride & Prejudice fan, I had to pick up this book, and liked it to some degree just because of the premise ... same story, but from Mr. Darcy's point of view! (and extended into their marriage)

I did feel it was in need of more editing than it received, both for the odd bit of strange syntax or use of "peaked" when "piqued" was meant (geez), and for occasional excesses -- pushing the premise too far (I don't think Austen's characters, as defined, would have do More...

It kept my interest. But in the beginning, there was really nothing new, and then when it turned into a romance novel in the middle -- complete with steamy sex scenes -- I was horrified ... but I kept reading. Rather than Pride and Prejudice "retold" through Darcy's eyes, as promised on the cover of my copy of the book, it's more like variations on a theme. It starts very much with the Pride and Prejudice we all know and love, and then it takes up its own thread and runs in a completel More...

I give this a four for the first 3/4 of the book. She stayed true to the original Pride and Prejudice novel, and it was refreshing to read it from Darcy's perspective. It seemed believable and true to what we imagine he was like.

When she carries on the story of Elizabeth and Darcy past their marriage, it was exciting--haven't fans of Pride and Prejudice wondered what happened next? We all probably have our own notions of what they were like, but I felt she made them out to be too.. More...

Very easy reading though I'm not sure it warranted printing. I wasn't convinced by the amount Darcy and Elizabeth were snogging before their wedding. It is written like someone who has just fantasised about P&P a lot and written down her thoughts - we've all had our own private 'Mr Darcy' thoughts - but I would suggest most don't warrant publishing - this includes the authors.

I'm not sure why I even bothered reading it except it was left in my hotel room whilst on holiday - apparen More...

Ever wonder what Darcy was feeling during Pride and Prejudice? Thanks to Austen’s superb storytelling, we are not left wanting regarding how Elizabeth feels towards Mr. Darcy. However, we never quite know the exact series of events that make Darcy view Lizzy as the sole object of his affections instead of an insignificant person unworthy of his time. In Darcy’s Passions: Pride and Prejudice Through His Eyes by Regina Jeffers, we get a glimpse at what Darcy must have truly felt and get to view More...

Encountering this book made me seriously reconsider my fledgling plan to collect Jane Austen spin-offs as a hobby. First, the good.

If you or someone you know doesn't quite understand why the actions of the Bennets and Lady Catherine are so very bad, then this book is for you. In this, Ms. Jeffers' background as an English teacher of some 37 years shows. Clearly, she has had to explain these points to class after class of high school students, so felt she couldn't assume knowledge o More...

Great perspective - very well done from Darcy's point of view. Some incorrect usage of words and punctuation, and misspellings. This is an annoying example of the deterioration of the English language in printed form. I abuse it myself while speaking, but I expect writers and editors to keep books to a certain level!

If you are Pride & Prejudice fan, it is a DEFINITE must to read.
Forgive the author the typical romance novel plot twists at the end, it was still good.

I liked seeing Pride and Prejudice through Darcy's point of view, but I did find the overall novel lacking. I felt like the characters stayed fairly true to form until right before the wedding and afterward. Then they fell into typical romantic characters. I did like Jeffers take on some of the reasons why Darcy is the way he is. I did like the anxiety that Elizabeth felt in taking over Pemberley. If you aren't a purist when it comes to Pride and Prejudice, you may enjoy the book.

I loved how Darcy was portrayed in this book. He was shown as a more vulnerable and human character. Instead of fighting with Elizabeth Bennett because of his pride it shows a more playful side by implying that he is purposely sparring with her because he admires her wit. My only issue is that the story continues on past the Happy Ever After that Pride and Prejudice gives us. Darcy and Elizabeth have sex - and lots of it. It kind of threw me a bit.

Interesting take on Darcy and Elizabeth. The beginning was an abbreviated version of Pride and Prejudice while the second half takes place after the wedding. I liked the story quite a bit but I didn't like some of the characteristics the author gave Lizzy. If you like Pride and Prejudice and enjoy reading what other people think their life was like once that story ended, I think you would like this book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The 'unknown' parts where Darcy is apart from Lizzy in the original are portrayed here in a plausible way. The way he spends his time and thoughts are written in a way that I can see Darcy's personality clearly doing. Some spin-offs have not been as plausible, so I appreciated that. It follows the original book's timeline and interactions quite faithfully. This book also goes beyond the wedding for 2 months. It shows their love and passion in a clean yet More...

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the author did an excellent job capturing the essence of the character Darcy for the most part. There were some stretches, particularly at the end, but even those were acceptible. Regina Jeffers made the characters her own while still remaining true to Jane Austen's original story. And I just love Mr. Darcy anyway, so it was extremelly interesting to see another perspective on the story.

I am a little obsessed with Pride and Prejudice and just happenend on this book at Barnes and Noble. It is Pride and Prejudice told through the eyes of Mr. Darcy! It added all of the insites that I was longing for from HIS perspective. I realize that it is fiction but my mind has been dancing with images and thoughts that the book brought to me! Loved it!

This is one of the better "Darcy Verisons of P&P" I have read. I felt it stayed true to the characters Jane Austen had created.
I loved seeing the proposal through Darcy's eyes. How on earth did he think he had proven his love to Elizabeth, I don't know? He actually thought she had been crying alone at the Collin's because he hadn't arrived sooner to propose.
