Sixteenth in the Murray Family historical romance series. This particular story is set in early summer 1478 and the couple focus is on Tormand Murray and Morainn Ross.
My Take
This was…um...I was gonna say fun, but the method by which Howell puts the young lovers together is not so much fun as it involves an insane serial killer. Other than that…
Howell seemed to enjoy writing this story as she addressed the fears the idiot...er, the susceptible fool...um...the uneducated masses had about anything...more

This wasn't one of my favorite books of Hannah Howell's. I had read a little of the story in the back of another book and was interested because I have enjoyed her other highland romances. But this one seemed to lack something in the middle. There was a lot of annalization of their relationship by the characters that I found myself thinking that it really needed to get moving. The characters had the potential to be good, but I feel she missed the mark on this one. Maybe she needs to write about...more
I was looking for something to tide me over until the next Diana Gabaldon Outlander book. Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness was fairly satisfying, but then I finished those as well. I was glad to see another writer with a wealth of Highland adventures. Unfortunately, this book was a a pale shadow of those other adventures. It lacked any depth and the characters seemed very one dimensional. I found the book to be lacking as well in any historical insights. I didn't throw the book out completely,...more
Tormand Murray, a minor character in the last book, wakes up in this one to find he has a sore head and a very bloody, very dead body of a former mistress for a bedmate. Someone is trying to set him up. He quickly sends for his friend Simon, also a minor character in the previous book and an established sleuth.
Meanwhile, Morainn, who was cast out of the village as a witch, is having dreams of a handsome, innocent man, and some of her dreams point to the identity of the truly guilty.

AUTHOR: I'm one of those people partial to author Hannah Howell. Her flair for writing Scottish Historical romance is awesome. I love the use of the words that she throws in there, "I wish I could tend to YE now, LASS,..... "There are a few LASSES left in this town whom he HASNAE bedded." Her series always appear to have (2) main characters that cross paths which leads to l'amore. But, not before they either give each other a headache or someone else a headache.

This is a historical romance about a guy who has slept around with any woman who will have him. Then an unknown person starts killing off those women. He goes to a woman who is considered a witch because she has visions. So when he falls in love with her, she believes that she is just another in a long line.
I was looking forward to reading this book since I do like Hannah Howell's books. This was disappointing. It didn't feel like I was able to connect to the characters, Morainn and Tormand. Overall this book seemed more like a thriller than a highland romance that I could spend an evening losing myself in.

The Murrary Family sage continues w/ Thormand Murray. As w/ the rest of the books, I found this an easy, enjoyable read. I must admit, I was pleasantly suprised by the amount of action and suspense, and the few plot twists. I would def recommend this book and the series to fans of historical romance.
Sir Tormand Murray is being framed for a very brutal murder of a past lover. He must flee the scene he woke from. He woke in a bed of blood with her dead body. And until he can prove his innoncence he must run.
Morainn has been accused often of being a witch, but really she has a gift of seeing things as they happen or are they are going to. (The Sight)
When another murder happens and it brings them together. These two must work together before the murderer turns the whole town against the two of...more

saw mention of HH on a message board
I would have preferred more of an ending, perhaps another short chapter or an Epilogue. Aside from that, I loved it just like I've loved all I've read from HH so far, though that isn't much yet. I've only discovered her recently and I have a lot of catching up to do!

love this, i actually read this a lot of time.
When woman begin to show up horribly mutilated and murdered, Tormand is the prime suspect. Only Morainn, the Ross witch, can help prove his innocence.
Whoa dark. Lots of horrible murders with psychopaths and all that. Not a fun little read, but looking past the crime aspects, it was another cute Howell romance. Tormand and Morainn fit together quite well, and there were a sufficient number of surprises to keep it from feeling like the same old story.

This is another fine Highland tale of the Murray clan. I really enjoyed it, but Tormand just didn't feel as wonderful as Hannah Howell's past heroes. There was something that I just can't seem to put my finger on that was missing and I didn't feel as drawn in by his character as I have others.
