I picked this book up when I was in London and had I known then that this author's books are out of print in the US, I would've picked up the rest because she's a great writer. Tansy is struggling with addictions of her own and, after her mother dies, she decides to travel around Asia for a while. This was the final piece of fiction I read in preparation for my trip to Thailand, and it was considerably inferior to the others (The Beach and Sightseeing). For the first half of the book, the heroine was so utterly unlikable that I almost abandoned the story at several points. I didn't because I knew her redemption was inevitable--unfortunately, though, that story was ultimately ruined by a poorly executed murder mystery. Bleh.

A shallow, cocaine-addicted Londoner's mum dies and she plans to travel to Asia with her boyfriend. The boyfriend drops out, so she's on her own. Travelogue combined with murder mystery with romance thrown in. Difficult to get into at first, because of the unlikable protagonist, but I enjoyed reading about SE Asia. Contrived in the end, but I enjoyed it after the first 60 pages.

This is a fun book, although more of a light read. I read this book while backpacking in Southeast Asia. I enjoyed the fact that the book took place in so many of the countires I had actually been too. There is weird murder mystery that I think the book could have done without, but a fun beach read.

Fabulous. A shallow English female gets dumped in an ugly way, travels to thailand, finds romance, solves a dangerous mystery, and becomes a better person. I love an accidental hero/heroine. It lags in the middle, but is forgivable because it wraps up so well.

I really like this book about a Londoner who escapes the daily grind to take her dream trip across Southeast Asia. Part travelogue and part murder mystery, this book is also about forgiving yourself so you can move on with your life.

The main reason I liked this book is because I enjoy the life of traveling around cheaply by backpack and have been to seveal of the places mentioned in the book. A nice light summer read.

This is not your average chick lit! It is more of an adventure/travel book. Which I read a lot of lately. It is curiuosly satisfying. (especially if you have the itch to travel)

I read this an age ago, and all I can remember is that the protagonist is the kind of messed up woman we all have inside of us, and that the book was worth reading.
