luis cernuda was a spanish poet and member of the generation of '27 (along with garcía lorca, jorge guillén, and rafael alberti amongst others). during the spanish civil war, cernuda fled his native spain, living in exile in scotland, france, the united states, and eventually mexico- never returning to his home country. despite being a well-regarded and influential poet, seemingly very little of his work is available in english translation.
