This book starts out as a flashback and centers around Eddie and his brother Peter. The book gains twenty years in the next chapter and focuses on Cassie and her current situation with her separated husband, Marcus. He had an affair with a much younger co-worker and Cassie and her eldest son are having a hard time with that. The couple is in the middle of reconciliation when the story begins. The couple’s eldest son, M.J. is at a crossroads in his life with God and trying to stay away from the w...more

God Only Knows by Xavier Knight is a dramatic romance laced with mystery. In all, the story was shallow in the depth it treated some big issues like the aftermath of infidelity on a family, the impact of a family member's illegal dealing on innocent family members, the impact of race-based hate, the struggle for diversity in education. This book seemed to bring up lots of issues, but only tap lightly on them.

I am torn on this book. I really wish there were half star ratings.. I would like to give 3.5 stars.... it's better than average but not as good as very good.
I enjoyed the basic story line and the characters; it was just at times I had a hard time relating to and understanding the characters.

I currently live in the Dayton area so I found this book fascinating as it had references to real places. I found it interesting to catch social comments about the current status of Dayton.

I gave this book 3 1/2 stars. This story was based on a secret that four friends kept hidden for more then 20 yrs. this story also had faith, racism, and low self worth issues.
Ruth Conrad
This novel is different from what I usually read, but I liked the well-developed plot and characters. The story takes place in and around Dayton, a place I have been visiting.
