And herein we get to learn a little more about the thing in his head, the relationships develop further, and we get more of a peek into the higher eschelons of the fairy world. Had at least one moment of "oh, how convenient" that related to a major plot mover, so had to give this one three stars instead of four for feeling cheated.

It's not bad enough that Connor Grey lost all his hair while averting a rather massive magical disaster, now he has to account for it too! Too bad that the dark matter lodged in his brain blocking his druidic abilities also seems to be causing him to forget spans of time with major magical happenings. And did I mention the loss of his locks (front cover not indicative of the plight the poor boy must be enduring)?

Connor remains an engaging detective amid the urban fantasy scene, kin More...

The Connor Grey books get better with each installment...I read #2 and #3 back to back and after I finished UNFALLEN DEAD, I was so sad that I couldn't rush straight into the next and the next and the next. The first book didn't have that addictive quality to me, but I could see all the building blocks of a truly great series, and, indeed, now I've been thoroughly sucked in.

A lot happens here, and plot is moved forward on every front. The tangled politics between the Teutonic and Celt More...

Review brought to you by OBS staff member Verushka

The Connor Grey Series by Mark Del Franco is about a druid who lives in Boston and helps the cops solve those cases involving the supernatural and the Fey.

Hands up anyone who is thinking of Harry Dresden?

I know the similarities are the reason I picked the first novel in this series initially, but The Dresden Files have faltered for me in recent novels (I haven’t read anything since “Turncoat” and considering th More...

Number #3 in the series, some plot lines are better explained in this book, while other plot lines take route in Unfallen Dead, and readers finally get significant progress on Connor's disability, the political instability among the Fae and even Connor's relationship with Meryl. Connor is still struggling with the black mass in his mind which blocks his druid abilities, or does it enhance them? and working with Murdock on cases the Guild won't bother with. His latest case involves two humans mur More...

In the third book of the series, damaged druid Connor Grey finds himself juggling between: a series of investigation by the representative of High Queen Maeve about the events that happened in Forest Hill (the previous book), a moving forward of his relationship with researcher extraordinaire Meryl Dian, a blast from the past in form of his former partner in New York, Dylan macBain, and a look into a couple of murders with his friend Murdock that seems to somehow linked into a plan to attack Tar More...

The first two Connor Grey novels were more like detective novels with a paranormal flair. This third volume is firmly in the paranormal, while still having an intricate mystery, giving readers a deep look at the world and characters Del Franco has imagined. It is easily the best of the series so far and makes me hungry for the next installment.

A lot of plot lines take route in Unfallen Dead, and readers finally get significant progress on Connor's disability, the political instability More...

...The more I think about the ending, the less sense it makes.

I think part of the problem is that I don't actually believe the elves and fairies are a dangerous world power. I mean, yes they have illusion magic, and yes they'd win a fistfight, but their secret weakness is that they can be killed by bullets. Bullets! Yes! If only humans had some sort of bullet-shooting device.

Anyway, <spoiler>that made it hard to take it seriously when the end plot was that the Germa More...

won on first reads. :D

Connor Grey has gotten out of a lot of tough spots, and now the mage's guild wants him to account for his latest transgression. He lost his memory when the taint was released at the graveyard, and even though he's told that to the guild they don't believe him. They send underqueen Ceridwen with a spear that makes those it is focused on tell the truth so that she can investigate the situation.

Also the darkness in his head is changing. Making his abil More...

4 ½ stars.

In this third installment Connor, still lacking his old abilities but with a stronger essence sensing ability thanks to a troll, is under scrutiny from one of High Queen Maeve’s underQueens, Ceridwen, regarding the near apocalypse that took place at Forest Hills Cemetery. Not only that, but his old partner from New York City, Dylan macBain, shows up because of his job with the Guild. Thrown into the mix is Murdock and their latest case of dead bodies with runes carved into More...

This was a solid addition to the series. Del Franco seems to be a stronger writer with each new book. The Weird is truly his own creation.

I like Connor more with each book, Meryl too. Sh reminds me of Abbie from NCIS. Joe was fun, too, and I enjoyed meeting Connor's former partner, Daryl. It was also nice to see a reference to the fact that Connor isn't straight. If I have one complaint it's that I would like to have seen more of Murdock.

As Samhain approaches, the v More...

The writing has definitely taken a step up in quality, and the plotting has as well. On the other hand, during the climax it felt like line-to-line continuity wasn't as tight as it could be, with objects appearing and disappearing at random. Also, the smaller little twists at the end that really could have been built up better - as it was they felt cheap. There was also a bit of Spontaneous Generated Past Event - a phenomenon in which a major character sudden develops an event in their past, whi More...

I'm really growing fond of this series. It's an urban fantasy ideally suited to those on Harry Dresden withdrawl. The premise is that Connor Grey used to work for the magic police, but he lost most his power in an accident/attack and now consults for the Boston PD. Somehow, though, he ends up saving the day in a spectacular way in each book. This time, he closes the veil between the land of the dead and Boston on Halloween as some bad guys are trying to sneak through. If you read this series, do More...

Plot Summary: In the alleys of the decrepit Boston neighborhood known as the Weird, crime scenes show signs of residual magic, but the Guild, which polices the fey, has more “important” crimes to investigate and dumps the case on human law enforcement.

Boston police call in Connor Grey, a druid and former hotshot Guild investigator — whose magical abilities were crippled after a run-in with a radical environmentalist elf.

As Connor battles red tape and his own shortcomings, More...

Unfallen Dead is a good strong installment in the Connor Grey novels by Mark Del Franco, advancing the storyline not only for the world at large, but also for the story arc about what happened to Connor to disable his druid abilities. More specifically, we've got ourselves a story where the Convergence, the great merging of the human and Faerie worlds a hundred years or so back, seems to be finally reversing itself. But Connor's got his own issues; an underQueen of the Seelie Court is bent on in More...

More emphasis on the paranormal than previous books, yet a great mystery as well. The veil between the realms is thinning with the approach of Samhain. Connor Grey finds himself in the midst of a faerie investigation about events at the Forest Hills cemetery, bonding with the spear of a faerie underQueen, and as usually is assisting Murdock look into a series of murders that seem to involve the supernatural. Connor's relationship with Meryl continues to progress and we meet his former partner More...

OK, this one totally strained my credulity about this universe. And it started so well! Again, Connor is a gay man in love with this best friend. This thing with Mavis is just really unbelievable to me- it has no credence. His devotion to that police detective? Totally believable and that would be one hot relationship! I wish his publishers would have allowed Mr. DelFranco to "go for it". Ah well. There will be others with more courage and better writing ability to undertake that tas

If you are a fan of Jim Butcher and Kim Harrison, you probably want to get started on the Convergeance series. By book three Mark Del Franco has all the cylinders firing in sequence and this one takes off. The stakes just keep getting higher for Connor Grey as the world he's known changes swiftly and not often for the better. Connor's in for some shocks this time and the danger keeps striking closer to home. Full of memorable characters and fast action, you'll want to give all four of the Co More...

The veil lifting between the worlds added a new layer to these books that kept me interested. But as with the first two, the first five chapters did not hook me in and I had to struggle through them to get to the rest of the story. More of Connor's issues are being slowly revealed, and the more I learn about him, it seems the less I know and the more questions I have. But that's a good thing, because it keeps me coming back to this series.

Why would all the gargoyles from to Boston Common in late October? Why would Detective Lieutenant Murdock, of the Boston Police, run into a wall? Can Connor's weakened body shields really stop a bullet? Two of these three questions are answered in this book. But lots more unanswered questions (along with some answered ones, to be fair).

Definitely a page-turner!

Its flaw is that it relies some on one's memory of what has gone before, and I don't remember all the details of that. It'd be nice to have a few hints/reminders along the way (though I an not advocating an infodump of the entire plots of preceding novels; I think there's a middle ground there).

I originally read this when it was first published, but re-read it in January 2011. I think the ending is quite interesting, but the process of getting there, maybe not so much. The author's exposition is too heavy-handed, IMO. But that said, the dialogue is very good at times.

I enjoyed his installment in the Connor Grey series, but...I must confess that I could have done without the romantic relationship...it was very subtle, but...I just don't think the book needed it. And the ending has left me with HEAPS of questions. Where's the fourth book? *grin*

Connor's past comes to visit him in this book, in the form of a person and past actions that now seem to come back into play again. The past causes him to reevaluate what really happened and his reactions to it.

We also see things start to progress with Meryl, who is such a great pairing with Connor as she dishes it out more than she takes it. Murdoch and Joe are also around and they all are dealing with the fallout from the last book. When it seems like that has connections with w More...

Connor Grey's adventures in Boston continue and this time a link to the past shows up at the worst time. Connor has two seemingly unconnected murders to help solve, one of the UnderQueens of Tara is drilling him for information on the last mess he was involved in, he has more holes in his memory than swiss cheese and the "nothing" in his head that blocks his druidic mojo still hasn't an explanation. Oh, and his girl might be involved with the aforementioned murders. Uggh!
