This is the definitive historical text on ancient Greece, from what my studies have uncovered. I'm reading it slowly, sort of in conjunction with some of the Greek histories and other texts, trying to place things as much as I can. There's a lot to cover and a lot to remember. Though this book is dated, it's still excellent for it's breadth and depth.

This is the standard introduction to ancient Greek history (prehistory to the Hellenistic kingdoms) which has been used by English-speaking college students in various updated editions since its first publication by Bury in 1900. Dry and scholarly, but thorough, well written and very clear, with useful maps and columnar sidenotes.
