The narrative voice suffers at points, but the story is absolutely astounding. U-Boats attacking ships down the atlantic and gulf coast? U-boats surfacing in New York Harbor? You better believe it. After reading this, the bunkers and observatory towers along the Atlantic Coast that are circa WWII make more sense.

During his fourteen years in the R.A.N., Queensland born J.E. Macdonnell (aka James McNell) came up through all lowerdeck ranks to commissioned gunnery-officer. This experience is evident in his sea novels which have been published in many countries overseas, as well as in Australia and New Zealand.
