This book was originally written back in the 80's and it shows. The heroine, a naive kindergarten teacher, manages to land herself in an elevator during a blackout with a handsome older guy. She has a fit of the vapors and he ends up carrying her back to his apartment where he thinks it would be a grand idea to soothe her with some brandy and some good lovin'. Naive, innocent and virginal our brilliant heroine ends up downing two drinks and begging this stranger to have sex. She wakes up conveni

This definitely reads like a book first published in 1984. The body part descriptions in the sex scenes were so awful, "fleecy delta" and "fanny" being the worst, that you almost wish someone was reading with you so you could laugh together. I also didn't enjoy reading about a school teacher that thinks she'll lose her job for having a child out of wedlock, so she pretends to be married. Add to that the "hero" who sleeps with her when she's intoxicated *I don't c

'A classic love story' - I love how all of Sandra Brown's love novels have this description even though it isn't necessarily true. From the word go, as the reader you immediately know what 'words of silk' is about, it is a light read of love and sex. However, for something that's supposed to keep you hot and bothered (as well as giving false hope of true love :D) the novel false short of its premise. It lacks any substance and the love scenes are none too hot - and this is such a surprise for me

I listened to this book in one day. It was silly, totally unrealistic, and at times, really corny, but it was an easy read. It's not really an erotic type novel because older terms are used, but the writing of the steamy parts were pretty good, and there is quite a bit of it in this story. This book is pure romance, no intrigue or suspense. The male hero is a little odd, and might even be considered a stalker in the beginning, but as I said, this story is not one of realism. Real people just do

I can't understand why everyone disliked this book...I thought it was a cute, quick read. It is quite dated (Brassiere and manhood!), but I thought it flowed OK.

This book was originally published in 1986 and is so dated it could almost be classified an historical romance. ;-) The way pregnancy is dealt with in the book seemed a lot older than 1986, which happens to be the year my first child was born. I worked until the day before she was born and don't remember anyone telling me to stay off my feet or not to work too hard. But if you suspend disbelief, the book was decent in parts and entertaining overall. I think Laney held onto her "I don't need

More like a 1 and a half, really. I didn't hate it, but I didn't care for it, either. Not enough motivation for me to care about the couple, since there was no romance beyond sex, and I'm not sure I understand why they were suddenly in love, or if I bought it when they declared it. Also, the female was way too passive - kept stamping her little foot saying she wasn't going to do what the lunk of a hero wanted her to do, and then just did everything he wanted, anyway. It might be a quick read if

I am a fan of Sandra Brown and have generally found that even her worst books are still pretty good. Unfortunately, this book proves to be the exception to this rule. The main problem I had was with Lainey the heroine. She was whiny, selfish, obstinate and TSTL. Listening to her constant excuses and complaints was irritating and I found myself rooting for the hero to give her what she said she wanted and leave. All in all this was a rare Sandra Brown disappointment.

Laney McLeod & Deke Sargent
It´s a nice story about Laney, but I missed Deke´s story. Yes, he had a good and protected childhood, but what was on his mind when he kind of crashed into her live and took it over? I didn´t understand Laney´s reactions then.
I would have loved details about Laney´s dad. Deke could have located him easily. Maby it would have been enought for Laney to know his whereabouts.

This was almost a DNF ("Did Not Finish"). I loved Brown's Breakfast in Bed and thought this one would be just as good but was disappointed. It started out strong but after Laney and Deke are reunited, they began to annoy me. Deke came off as overbearing and a jerk and Laney flaky. I think it could have been written better, but as with other category romances of the time, not a good example of the genre.

Granted the content of this book is filled with sex, but this is a reprint of Sandra Brown's first novels as a romance writer! Obviously, at least two decades have gone by since this book was written, and her writing style has improved greatly. This is understandably a big shock for those who enjoy her suspense novels.

This was a very good summertime read - quick and interesting - not too spicy, but just right. I haven't read much by Sandra Brown, but a friend lent me this and I thought I'd give it a try. Not at all disappointing, but it was short and could have been a full novel.

This is NOT my genre of books. Unless your looking for a smutt book I would not recommend this at all. I listened to it in my car and had to close the windows because I was embarassed someone would hear it. Seriously I would give this an X rating. All sex and barely any story to hold it together.

I received this book thru Goodreads First Reads! I haven't read much by Sandra Brown, but really liked this book. I loved how two strangers come together and end up having an amazing life! I was worried when I seen how small the book was once I started reading and wondered if it would leave you hanging in the end, but the ending couldn't of been more perfect!

Didn't like the beginning...;( seemed too silly..;/
The characters seem to be saying the same things over and over again...was like a waste of paper;(

For some reason I can't quite put my finger on I liked this one. I think it is because of Laney. Her reaction to her after her out of the ordinary behavior after the blackout seemed to ring true and was funny. As she went back to her life and those little flashbacks came back to shock her along with her other surprise was funny.
I was glad to see Deke hunt her down and even bulldoze his way into her life, it was just what she needed. Their tug of wills back and forth made for gr More...

Terrible book. Even though I read it years ago, I can still smell the stench of horrible-ness.

This is a classic romance written 20 years ago. Other reviews have criticized it for that, but that's what it is. The storyline and characters are reflective of the time. It was a good read and I will definitely look for more Sandra Brown books.

This is not my usual reading material but it was nice for a change. A little sappy at times, but it's good to hear they lived happily ever after now and again.
