This book challenged me so much. I pray that I become a man who puts my time with God first. I pray that I give Him my best hours. This is a great read for someone who needs a kick in the butt or for someone who has become complacent in their prayer life. Two of my favorite quotes from the book have to be, "Christ knows nothing of prayerless Christians" and "The Church is looking for better methods and God is looking for better men."

Wow! This book hits you hard. This book convicts, challenges, reminds & encourages. After reading this book, prayer seems bigger, more important, yet widely missed more than ever. If we desire for God to begin working anew in this world, it is going to start with prayer. While the book is a little over a 100 pages, it is so rich with thought and deep with insight that it takes a while to process everything. This book is a must-read for anyone wanting to make much of God.

The blurb says this author has a penetrating and forthright style, and I'd agree with that. Unfortunately, this forthrightness is busy telling the readers that there's a serious problem with people in churches because they aren't down on their hands and knees praying for hours every day. Or something like that. Okay, this was written a century ago, and the style of chastising everybody strongly was acceptable then (and still happens in places), but it's definitely not my style.

I find praying one of the hardest parts of the Christian life and so recently I've taken to reading a few pages from books about prayer before beginning to pray. This was an inspiring book on the priority of prayer for preaching. The main contention of this book is that powerful preaching can only realized by spending much time in fervent prayer.

absolutely loved this book. directed towards preachers, it rebukes, rebuilds, and cheers on the prayerless to the most prayerful pulpiteers. a must read for any preacher and a should read for everyone else!

Passionately written, the words of E.M.Bounds ring all the more true in this era.

Good book for anyone who lacks in their personal prayer life. Good convicting message.

I've been reading this book a little each morning to help me think about my prayer life and inspire me to more prayer. It's been helpful. Bounds emphasizes the importance of spending a good amount of time daily in prayer, especially for pastors. His style is a little repetitious, and he doesn't offer much practical help. The book is primarily exhortative, but in that respect it is helpful. While it wasn't amazing, I definitely liked it and will probably read more of Bounds in the future.

This book stresses the importance of prayer, particularly for preachers. And, basically, that's it. The point is well taken - for all of us, not just those who preach - but in twenty short chapters (the book is only 128 pages long) I could not find any other message. And some of the requirements he suggests for preachers seem not just radical, but pretty much impossible.
A pity, because the other book I read by EM Bounds was encouraging and helpful.

Power Through Prayer is something you need to read on a regular basis until you drive home in your mind the fact that prayer is the means in which we stay in constant communication with God. And if one does not stay in constant communication with God, they will surely come to realize soon enough that they have fallen away from the faith and never knew Christ at all.

Great book! He gives many examples of men who have prayed and the power that God gave their lives. I like what he says about what he calls "professional prayer" (leading people in prayer)He believes the one doing so should be qualified... and qualification comes only from personal prayer... to get the full effect you have to read it...

An encouraging and convicting book on prayer by an old school guy I don't know much about. I was told that a good way to get fired up to pray more is to read a few books on prayer, and so I read this one chapter a day for a month or so (short chapters) -- and it has, in fact, spurred me on to pray more.

Written maxim-style; in praise of prayer and the men who have spent much time at it; hard to disagree with many of his maxims--however, some of them are pretty far "out there" (e.g., prayer working "like magic" to accomplish some purpose).

Very challenging and convicting! Of course there are things that I would question but it will expand your mindset if that is what you want--read it!

This is an amazing book for every Christian to read. It shamed/shames me, and brought about life changing results.

This is the best motivational book on prayer I have read. It was aimed at pastors when written. I can not stell you how many times I have read it but I have worn out three copies of it. It is always on my desk or next to my bed. It has often traveled with me. Prayer can change the world and this book can change your attitude toward prayer. It is not a book on how to pray. There are other books for that. This is a motivational classic on prayer. It is not one to read once but to read over and ove
