This account by Mossad agent Yuval Aviv of Operation Wrath of God in which covert Israeli agents tracking down and killing the Palestinians believed to be responsible for the horrific Munich massacre
This gripping book succeeds on at least three levels:
First, its a terrific thriller, full of suspense and cool spy tricks.
Second, it raises thought-provoking contemporary questions of the war on terror. For example, is it better to assassinate terrorists based on secret evidence, or t...more

I think I owe Steven Spielberg a half-apology for bashing Munich two years ago. I still have objections toward his portrayal of the Mossad agents in the film. However, I was wrong when I accused him for disrespecting the Mossad (and the Israeli government, in that case), because they selected "Avner" (not a real name, obviously) who was an inexperie...more

“In 1972, 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by the Palestinian Liberation Organization at the Munich Olympics. This is the story of the man who was sent out to avenge them.” This is also the story of the making of a Jewish 007 as in Bond, James Bond, a fascinating book and true story that reads like a thriller novel. “She reads the weirdest stuff,” I can hear you thinking….so how did I become interested in a book dedicated to taking out terrorists? One fateful evening I looked up fro...more

Finally had time to finish a book! Steven Spielberg's movie "Munich" was based off the information in this book about an Israeli team that was sent out to kill the terrorists responsible for the killing of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic games. This is a good read for anyone who likes spy thrillers, conspiracy stories, or wants to learn a little more about Isreal. It is a "supposedly" true story and although there is some controversy about this, since it is a little...more

Tells the story of the Mossad agents tasked with tracking down and 'eliminating' the terrorists responsible for the Munich Olympic massacre. Follow these agents as the go deep undercover to battle those responsible. If it was only just a run of the mill spy novel the story would end there. Yet, sadly, it's not. The themes in this book are as important and confused today as they were 30 years ago. As we are futher faced with a world engulfed in terrorism we must ask ourselves and our leaders, 'Ca...more

This is the book on which Stephen Spielberg based his film, Munich. If you're interested in the problems in the Middle East, this book gives a good background into the origins of the post-British colonial Middle East conflict. There has been some speculation as to whether the protagonist is really one person or a composite character of a few people. In any case, the author provides a clear account of the events that led up to and followed the 1972 Olympic massacre of almost a dozen Israeli athle...more

I wish I had read this book prior to watching Munich a zillion times. I really love Munich and so this just wasn't quite as awesome. Plus "true crime" style writing never really does much for me and at the end of the day that is what Vengeance is. That being said, it did inspire me to go out and learn more about the Baader-Meinhof gang and once again be blown away by all the terrorism there was in the 1970s.

This is the book the movie "Munich" was based on. It is the chronicle of an Israeli CT team sent to kill all the terrorists responsible for the attack on the Israeli team at the 1972 Munich Olympics. It documents them tracking the terrorists and systematically hunting them down one by one. NY the end of the operation they begin to wonder if they had become terrorists themselves. Really good book.

I really enjoyed this book, but I found the format to be a bit tedious. The author has extensive footnotes which contain information pertinent to the story. I kept having to flip back and forth, and was using 2 bookmarks to keep track of where I was. I feel the information in the footnotes was important enough to be included in the actual text. Other than that, a very compelling true story!

This is a fantastic book- it gives an inside look at the training and mentality of the Mossad in addition to chronicling the actual mission. However, the end is somewhat more critical of the Israeli government than the movie (Munich) is. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the Middle East, counter-terrorism, or just an excellent spy story.

Interesting book about Terrorism and world espionage. There is some controversy over the validity of the source and information supplied in the book, but regardless the book is like the real Jason Bourne, I think Robert Ludlum may have got some of his ideas from this government action. Written for mature audiences, not teens or children.

I have a dim recollection of the slayings at the '72 Munich Olympics but until I read "Vengeance" I did not understand what happened there, nor the bigger picture of strife between Arabs and Israelis. This book put it in context and opened my eyes to a conflict that still goes on today, more fiercely than ever.

This book was interesting to me because it follows one of Israels first spies after the assassination of some members of Israel's Olympic team by the PLO. It gives some back story to the tensions that still exist and underlines Ghandi's saying about an eye for an eye making the whole world blind.

The book that the movie "Munich" is based on, the story has ignited some debate over sources, but the story has largely stood up. Jonas's novel is largely more entertaining than Spielberg's movie, and that's because there's more detail provided.
Pffm-Pffm. Read it. You'll understand.

When this came out, people were reluctant to believe the government of Israel would participate in such covert, counter-terrorist operations.
This story goes to show how much control and secrecy this government (like most) is capable of.

The usual case of the book far outpacing the movie that followed it. Because of the nature of the primary source for this book, you have to wonder about the absolute truth of all the facts, but it's a hell of an interesting read.
