I started reading this series when I was around 12 years old, and it has influenced my taste in reading and men ever since. To quote Kurt Vonnegut “To diggers a thousand years from now, the works of John D. MacDonald would be a treasure on the order of the tomb of Tutankhamen.”

Sure they're dated, but somehow they're not. I love to go back and reread. Meyer rocks! He was quite a bit ahead of his time I think. And McGee, tarnished knight-errant, self deprecating hero fills the archetype so well.

John D. MacDonald was born in Sharon, Pa, and educated at the Universities of Pennsylvania, Syracuse and Harvard, where he took an MBA in 1939. During WW2, he rose to the rank of Colonel, and while serving in the Army and in the Far East, sent a short story to his wife for sale, successfully.
