Overall I liked it, but I found it hard to like any of the characters aside from Nick. He was the only one that held my interest from beginning to end. I did manage to warm up to Diana and a few other characters, but Cassie bugged me ever since book one and continued to bug me throughout "The Captive, Part 2." She managed to redeem herself in "The Power" since she wasnt running around acting all secretive and lying to everybody anymore. I was upset over how the love story played out and the endi...more

Firstly I need to get out there how amazing this book truly was. I loved the atmosphere and the growing relationship between characters. Description: Cassie finally fits into the coven, being seen as one of their own. She begins to realise being apart of the coven isn't all great as it turns out to be. Meanwhile, Faye is in a position to choose which side she is on, this ultimately developing the end results on whether the coven will be able to survive against the evil befalling in New Salem. I really like the Secret Circle. I read the first book a year or two ago, and had to re-read it recently since the show on The CW has really messed up the actual story in my head. Let me just say, unlike Smith's other series The Vampire Diaries, where the show is way better than the books; I actually prefer the Secret Circle novels to the show.

There is something about the books that I really enjoy but I can't really put my finger on it. I really love stories about witches, the kind that...more
Everyone I knew was talking about this book series and how great it was, it was all over the internet and there were a lot of positive reviews written about it in the local library so I wondered what the big fuss was and picked them up. And now I am hooked.

Once I started reading the first one I couldn't put that one down and read through the night finishing at 5 am. But it was worth it.So then I couldn't wait to read the second one and picked it up as soon as I can.

I have to say that L.J Smith...more
The Captive Part II:
In this story Cassie Blake is still a captive of Faye because she's being blackmailed. The coven is trying to control or get rid of the evil, dark power of the crystal black skull created by an original witch in 1696. They decide on Halloween to go to the school dance and leave early then go to the empty, burnt down lot on their street, Crowhaven, and call the dead. They did that but it wasn't successful. Ironically enough the witches were born days apart from each other in N...more
Adam and Cassie have sworn not to love each other for the sake of their beloved leader Diana. But Faye has caught them in their one embrace. Now she uses it to blackmail Cassie, forcing Cassie to lie to Diana and to dig up the strange crystal skull that gives them all such dangerous visions. Meanwhile, students are being murdered, and the witches are under suspicion. And Faye wants from Cassie the ultimate betrayal: her vote for Faye as coven leader.
Faye rules the Circle, while Diana reels from...more
4/7/2009 - The story is basically about Cassie and her single mother reluctantly moves from California to New Salem, Massachusetts, to take care of Cassie's grandmother. The local high school Cassie now attends is dominated by a very exclusive group of teens known as "the Club." It won't take the reader long to figure out that Club members are teen witches descended from the witches who survived the Salem witch hunts by leaving that town and starting their own.

This is a wonderful series! You wo...more
It's fine. I'll understand if you don't want to be my friend anymore.

When the first book left me wanting more I was glad to see that this one was as fastpassed and interesting. The story is beautiful and with a lot of action. I would like a little bit more witch fights, calling on the elements and stuff, a little bit more active magic and not so much of herbs and crystals. The ending was good but not so much fulfilling, it didn't left me wanting more or being extremely full, it just left me...
A good read for anyone, and I can't wait for the tv series this fall!
Finally...something to satisfy my interest since TWILIGHT! This book had me hooked right from the beginning. It has just the right amount of mischief and tourture mixed in with a little forbidden love.
This is definately a MUST READ for all twilight lovers...and haters! I finished both the first and second book in about 4 days...and i am a very busy person...even i found time to read :) i just couldnt put it down!

The Captive Part II continuation...

At least in the second part of the book, Cassie finally grew some balls and stood up to Faye. Albeit a little too late (Faye was already cove leader by then), but still. Diana didn't deserve the betrayal she got, but she's just so naive and trusting that our characters just couldn't resist fooling her, maybe. And Cassie should've known better. So now the spirit of Black John is released, and Cassie's grandmother died. How are they possibly gonna stop a dark ene...more

I really Loved this trilogy or 2 part story whatever you want to call it. It goes down as a new favorite of mine. I think I could read and reread over and over. I think the soul-mate, but we can't be together thing really got me.awww

The story really picks up in the Captive Pt. 2 and The Power. While I was annoyed with how mousy Cassie was in the last two books, it was really nice to see her grow and become more confident in these ones. Still, the cheesyness of Diana’s character and blandness of Adam’s annoys me to no end. I seriously wanted Cassie to end up with Nick because he had more depth to him. And then the ending made me cringe. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a happy ending, but if the character does get a happy ending,...more
Ok so this book was in my opinion better than Twilight! I loved it and it gets so good tword the end!
The second part of the Secret Circle trilogy resume from where we stopped in the other book, the Captive. Now I still do not undersatnd why Harper Teen decided to slae the Captive with both The Initation and The Power that beyound me.

Anywho, the story takes us back when the Circle is dealing both with The dark energy that was released from the skull still looming and killing people and with Cassie still under Faye's felons grapped on her little finger all thanks to her hell-kittnes who spied on...more

I wasn't feeling this book. Nothing really happened in either of them. After finishing The Captive Part II I was hoping The Power would offer some action, a plot, something..

But again I was disappointed. The only thing that happened in these books was Cassie fighting temptation to be with Adam. I am all for a love story, but I didn't even feel this was one.

The characters were completely unbelievable. They were able to do absolutely anything they wanted to, whenever they wanted to. Not...more
Again 3.5 rating
I went straight onto this one when I finished the first book.
Cassie is now part of The Circle but things are getting more dangerous. The Captive is actually my favourite out of the series, things seem to move forward more, the characters develop and the plot is better paced. The story is still predictable, but there is enough magic and intrigue to keep you wanting to read.
The Power is a great conclusion to the book and leaves you with a satisfying ending.
The books are easy to re...more

The Secret Circle Part II

There's evil in town and his name is Black John and only Cassie Blake can stop him.
There were some things I liked more in this book than the first like how Cassie finally seemed to take charge with her powers. She is finally showed doing something witchy. But, there were also some things I really didn't like. I wanted Cassie to be with Nick so bad. Yeah, I wanted her with Adam in the first one, but that was because all she ever thought about was him. Then, after their...more
The Captive Part II

Cassie has to make an impossible decision to choose either Diana or Faye. If Cassie chose’s Diana things will be how they are now, nothing will change. If Cassie chose’s Faye it will be for all the wrong reasons. If Cassie doesn’t choose Faye then, Faye will tell Diana what Cassie and Adam did behind Diana’s back, but that can‘t happen because it would crush Diana. Cassie decision could affect the lives of everyone in the circle.

This book reminds me of Harry potter. because...more

While reading the end I was actually amazed by the ending even though I wanted more, I felt that it ended well. I couldn't help myself to watch and and try to catch up with all of the news regarding the new show so completing the book was a total given. Cassie grew on me I felt that her journey was an endless one and didn't want to just end it with the last page. In this one you had one key ingredient already going into reading that the town had its purpose wheat you didn't get that the town had...more
This book starts off where the last one finished, We saw the gang let loose a dark evil power and a divide come between the group as they stuggle to find and capture the power. I love all of L.J. Smith's works (Night World, The Vampire Diaries and The Forbidden Game, and I also liked Dark Visions) but this series was a downer for me. I'm going to be honest here and say that I haven't read this from cover to cover. I read some of the start and a handful of the last chapters. I really didn't feel like reading the whole thing. Maybe some other time...
The main heroine does get stronger but I guess I'm use to the strong heroines of the 21st century as Cassie didn't jump out...more

Hey Guys,
This week I'll be reviewing The Secret Circle: The Captive Part 2 and The Power by L.J. Smith. This is an omnibus of the books that were written in the 90's. This is a story about a coven of witches and their adventures. This book contains the second half of the second book and the entire third book. Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:

Cassie has joined the most alluring-and deadly-in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a pri...more

The conclusion to the series. Kind of had different thoughts about both books. So 'The Captive: Part 2"....more continuation of the doubtful, "am I worthy to be part of the group" crap from Cassie. She's still under the influence of Faye and that part of the storyline annoys me. But, there is more revealed about Black John and that whole story so the plot is still getting moved forward. I give this part 3 stars. 'The Power' was actually the better of the three, I think....more plot threads comin...more

I liked this one better than the first two. That's a given. The first two are ok, kind of slow, but this ones pick up where the other two left off and at top speed.

Cassie is in the most elite club in her little town. She is sorrunded by friends and enemies, but she is not feeling like herself. She is feeling evil. Things she never thought she would do are happening rather easily and too quickly. And another killing happen in town, who did it? Will Cassi...more

I loved loved loved this book. It was such a satisfying ending to the series. I loved how the book jumped back into the story right where it left off in the previous book. I really liked how dedicated the coven was to finding out who the murderer was. There looking into Black John and how he could be involved was very interesting. There's so much you learn throughout the book about him. I was so happy at the end of...more
To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of L. J. Smith. I didn't really like the Vampire Diaries -- they were too far fetched and too mixed up. So, I didn't exactly plan reading The Secret Circle. But when I crossed path with the whole series in my local library, I thought I should give it a shot. So I did.

Both books are real page-turners. I've read my way through them in less than 2 days.

Although the plot was really new to me, because I haven't read anything about witches before (except for Beaut...more
The Captive is the best book in The Secret Circle trilogy, so with it starting off this edition, I was totally getting what was good about this series. Unfortunately, The Power starts badly with this ridiculous love-fest for Cassie, which annoyed me to no end and put her firmly into Mary Sue territory (seriously, everybody declares how wonderful she is, even after they find out she's lied and betrayed them, and one character begs for 3 pages to be allowed to date her). Plot-wise, Black John come...more
