حصلت على هذا الكتاب لدى زيارتي مع صديقي طارق لمكتبة معهد الإدارة العامة، وبعد فراغي من قراءته وددت لو أنني قرأته في بداية قراءتي الأدبية، فهو يضع برنامجًا جميلاً للارتقاء بالذائقة الأدبية كما أنه يعطي توجيهاتٍ جميلة للقارئ العام والقارئ الأديب.

I read this book as part of the Librivox book club. At first I wasn’t quite sure what to think about it, but I am so glad that I read it. Bennett was intensely passionate about enjoying your reading, expanding personal horizons, and relishing the art of literature. Beautifully written, although sometimes the author holds somewhat arrogant notions regarding literature and the people who enjoy reading it. This is a good read if you want to feel a cultivated, erudite person. Also very suitable for people who want to impress their high school teachers. Made me laugh out loud a few times as well; read the first part of the chapter on poetry if you want to know what I mean.
A wonderful little book from 1909 written with flair and humour that provides a practical way into some of the gems of English literature that probably passed by those of us who didn't study English at university.
i really like arnold bennett's writing. easy, pleasant, informative, and best of all written with a wry sense of humor. old but worthy and amazingly NOT "out of date"
AMAZING! GOOD! His writing is so beautiful and expressive it was a joy to listen to and loaded with good ideas. He understood me completely.
This is a fascinating little volume. Its intentions are inherent in the title. But for all of that it is not boring or dry. It is a meditation on why we read and what we get--or could get--from the endeavor. I have read Bennett before, but I'd forgotten about this particular title until I ran across a reference to it in Larry McMurtry's "Books." This is one of the most interesting books about reading that I have ever read. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in more than cursory reading.
