The drug scene in Aalborg in the first half of the 1990s - a novel in 3 parts.

In part one we meet the pusherfrau (always pronounced in German) Maria, who smuggles hash for Asger. It's constantly on the verge of disaster, and Asgar's junkie-dogs, Ulla's breasts, the police, Maria's mother and the Iranian deserter doesn't make it any easier.

Part two is about Allan's fight to get away from his old life. But the past doesn't appreciate being ignored, and his new flame, Maja, finds it difficult to be

This book was amazing, deserving of a 5-star review if not for a few technical problems that I felt sort of ruined my reading experience in the middle story of the book. The flashbacks were sort of random and those written into the real story and not in cursive were confusing and I had to reread passages to be sure what was when. In this part of the story it is also really hard to figure out the past and present tense.
The third part of the book is wonderfully written and very interesting. I felt

This book is an amazing book! It really shows the dark sides of Denmark in a way that everyone can relate to, even though its about drugs, abuse etc. It has so many different personalities in it that makes it so real and the reality mixed together with the brutality of the real life is frightening. The drugs that are mostly talked about in this book, is cannabis.

Cannabis isn't legal in Denmark, but we have something called Christiania. It's basically a little city that is know to be the place to

This is a novel in three parts - it was recommended to me by a Danish person who spoke very highly of it. Given that and the high praise it received in Denmark, I expected more. I suspect it suffers from a less than stellar translation. The middle part is the most engaging - the first took too long to become interesting and the third was almost unreadable (I skimmed it). Yet the middle part suffers the most from computer-introduced typos - "I phone" ie. I call on the phone is rendered as ...more

If I could change the fact that I've read it, I would. I truly wish I hadn't wasted my time, energy, and thoughts on this poisonous book, which leaves horrid images and scenarios behind after the last page is finally turned.
DO yourself a favour and don't read it, unless you like reading about drugs, sex, and desperate youngsters - a world which the book claims is more real than what we see. To a certain degree this world is real, but it isn't more real and more dominant, therefore one could ask

Three stories giving us diffenrent taks on life on the dark side in post-industrial Aalborg i Northern Denmark. It's been a while since I read it (15 years), and I remember the first story as quite engaging, but the two others as pretty much rubbish. It's knee-deep in the Danish "social-realistic" tradition, which I find quite boring.

Meget vellykket. Det er filmatiseringen til gengæld ikke!

An interesting book about a group of young people in Aalborg that all live or move in a drug milieu. Interesting because it is the first book to deal with the idea of white trash in Denmark, and because you get different perspectives on the milieu from different characters.

There's not much to say about this book, other than its a Danish Classic spiced wit, humor and just a bit realism.

Average, book that took quite a long time to finished but was worth it none the less.

The first two parts of the book are incredible interesting and catchy. The last part (Begravelsen) is however very long, and theres nothing that's really worth talking about in the last part.

Jakob Ejersbo is a writer who died young. He succumbed to cancer at 40, having published a volume of short stories and a novel, Nordkraft, which won the 2003 Golden Laurel Prize. But more importantly, it was hailed by critics and readers alike as a great new Danish novel, ushering in a new type of fiction that would draw a line under the minimalism and symbolism that had prevailed in Danish ...more
