Sean and his brothers were raised by their paranoid and delusional widowed father in the backwoods of Washington state. He has never gotten over the supposed suicide death of his identical twin brother Kevin 15 years ago. Nothing seems to hold his interest for long; not his various jobs or any one woman. His brothers refer to him as a "man slut" due to his prolific and shallow love life. They want him to find the kind of happiness they now enjoy with their own wives and to stop drifting thru life.

But the only woman that meant anything to Sean was his teenaged girlfriend Liv, who he cruelly dumped in order to save her life.

Sean has kept tabs on Liv for all these years, and surprisingly comes in contact with her again. He discovers that she is back in Washington and owns a bookstore that is torched by a crazed stalker who Liv refers to as "T-Rex".

Although she doesn't want to trust him, Sean convinces Liv that she needs protection until the stalker is captured, and she reluctantly lets him help her when her parents seem less than interested in believing or helping her.

Sean and Liv are on the run after the stalker makes an attempt on her life and Sean saves her. This attempt is tied into Kevin's death. Before Kevin died, he gave a note and a sketchbook to Liv to deliver to Sean. The note gives clues about a person that Kevin thought was trying to kill him. Kevin was participating in a neurological research project called the "Midnight Project" led by a diabolical doctor named Chris Osterman. The people conducting the project knew that Liv had the notebook, and want it back and her dead because they think she knows too much.

While on the run, Sean and Liv's love re-ignites with a passion, with numerous steamy encounters. But both Sean and Liv have some insecurities about themselves. Sean can't believe that a person of his background is good enough for a rich refined woman like Liv, while Liv can't believe what a charismatic and experienced man like Sean would want with a less than svelte, boring book store owner like herself.

All the characters from the previous McCloud books are back, including Seth & Raine, Margot & Davy, Erin & Connor, Miles & Cindy (Who have major roles), Tamara, and even Nick Ward has a cameo. Sean reminded me a lot of his brother Connor: witty, sometimes arrogant or overbearing, but also sweet and vulnerable, and Liv knew just how to handle him--they were great together! This book was fantastic, kept me on the edge, and the last 30 pages had some truly gruesome moments. But the ending was worth it, and I had tears in my eyes. Of all the McCloud brothers books, this one may be my new favorite. 5 stars.(less)

I absolutely loved Edge of Midnight, which is number four in the Mccloud & Friends Series. You definitely need to read these in order!

I’ve been anticipating Sean’s story since his brother, Conner’s, book, ,Behind Closed Doors. He’s looks like a fallen angel, and is so charming and funny that no one can resist him. He loves women. All ages, shapes, colors. He is the classic wam-bam-thank-you-mam bad boy that we cannot seem to say no to. However, prior to Kev’s death, he falls for Liv, one of Kev’s good friends. No one else matters now. Liv is the virginal good girl that has been stifled by her overbearing parents (read: mother) her entire life. She’s 18 when she meets Sean and falls hard, over a period of a month. He feels the same way. But one day, out of the blue he turns cold and dumps her and runs her away from him. She is devastated, and leaves the state to go to college. Kev dies the same day.

She leave town and has no idea her good friend Kev is dead. Sean drove her away from him over something that Kev told him, in order to protect her. She has no idea of this. Sean is devastated. Sean threw himself into life full force. He joins the service, he gets himself into all kinds of dangerous situations, trying to fight the demons inside. He can’t stop thinking about Liv or his dead brother, Kev. Every anniversary of his brother’s death he goes out and gets so hammered his brothers have to follow him around to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself or land in jail. We first see Sean in this book waking up after this night. It is slightly humorous situation as he tries to piece the night together.

Present day: Liv is being stalked by a very twisted sicko that may have had something to do with Kev’s death. Sean has kept track of Liv all these years, however she doesn’t know that. He has never stopped loving her. She still too loves him, but is still scarred over his abrupt dismissal. They end up thrown together after the stalker burns down Liv’s place of business, and Sean happens to be in town and goes to see if she is ok.

It makes me sick to learn what could have happened to Kev. Was he just a piece of meat in some psycho’s experiment? We’re talking drugs, restraints, brain control, etc. I think this is the best book of the series so far.

This book has mildly explicit loves scenes with some dominance.

I think I found my new favorite in Shannon Mckenna's McCloud series. I loved this book and I loved Sean. He's the ultimate bad boy and a consummate man slut. He's also the proverbial class clown as well as an idiot savant. He was complicated and hysterical and I couldn't stop smiling or laughing over his antics. He's described as nearly out of control with his boundless energy and what better way to work off all that energy than engaging in sweaty, all night sex fests?! Most of my enjoyment came about because of Sean and I loved his sense of humor. I'd much rather laugh than cry and it's nice to read about a romance hero who embraces the same ideals. Sean is definitely carrying a lot of inner turmoil and baggage though, but it was all nicely balanced out with the humor.

Normally I find an author I like and I just inhale their backlist....until I find a stinker and then I get real gun shy and drop the author like a diet. I read Shannon McKenna's Out of Control and I didn't like it, so I wandered away from her work, taking a break. Then I saw Edge of Midnight at the library and I thought, well, what could it hurt? I am so glad I picked this book up because it was freakin awesome.

The plot is seriously over the top and you can either go with it or you can roll your eyes and forget it. This Joseph Mengele styled storyline allows the possibility of mind control and poor Kevin McCloud is sacrificed in the pursuit of science. (or is he?) As is the blossoming love affair between Sean and Liv. Sean sent Liv away in order to protect her and now almost a decade later, she comes back home and is again targeted by the psychos who want to know what Kevin might have told her. Sean steps back into her life to act as her bodyguard, her servant, her sex slave and her own personal clown. He endearingly throws himself at her feet and it was really amusing. He's almost slavish in his adoration of Liv and I just ate it up. This is not to say that he was a doormat for Liv to walk all over. Oh, no. That wouldn't make this a Shannon McKenna book. Sean is as alpha as they come and as obsessed in his need and desire for her as any of his brothers about their wives. The sex is as gritty and raw as this fabulous author can write and their first sex romp was in Liv's childhood bedroom and there's something about using a girlhood room as the location for a no holds barred sex fest that is so naughty. *grin*

We gets lots of fun cameos with all the McCloud brothers and Seth and of course, Tamara. I love Tamara. Her wit nearly matches Sean in this one and I love her razor sharp tongue. I really, really recommend this intense and exciting story by Shannon McKenna. If you can handle a hugely aggressive alpha male who would happily lay his life down on the line for you while making you laugh your a** off, then this is the book for you. Enjoy! (less)

First book I read by McKenna and I instantly became a fan. I should have read the others but I found this because it was a new book in the New Books section. So I gave it a try. And let me tell you, this book is HOT. I loved it! I even read it a second time and I never do that. Sean is the mouthy, impulse-driven younger brother in the McCloud family and he starts the novel in a bad place. Fifteen years ago he fell hopelessly in love with Liv Endicott but acting on a warning from his now-dead twin, he finished with her as a way to ensure her safety. Shortly after, his twin (Kev) committed suicide and he’s spent the past fifteen years trying to come to terms with this trauma, while obsessing over Liv from a safe distance. However, once her life is in danger, he steps forward and tried his best to protect her without trashing his heart any further.

The bad guys are evil and truly bad, while Sean is a classic protective alpha male. There is humour in his interactions with his family, and a moving sub-plot featuring Miles and the hopeless love of his life, Cindy.

I have to say though. Coming into the final chapters, I was on tenterhooks for a plot twist that I could hardly bear to read, in case it didn’t work. Sean is given multiple clues that Kev may still be alive – which he doesn’t act upon. If he’d survived, the only reason he wouldn’t have contacted his family would be if he was unable to for some reason. Since he’d had weird and creepy experiments performed on his brain, it’s entirely possible he’s unable to communicate with anyone, or even a vegetable in an institution – or an amnesiac.

At one point, Sean shows a homemade tattoo to Liv, one that was applied by his father as a way of telling the identical twins apart – he tattooed their name onto their legs. Liv’s parents were trying to lock her up in a mental home (as a way to keep her from Sean) – so I fully hoped that she’d see a man there who bore a strong resemblance to her lover. She could then check his leg and find the identifying tattoo – voila. Sadly, none of this happened. The ending was vicious and taut, and I gobbled it up anyway, but I was disappointed this opportunity hadn’t been taken. Oh well. 4 stars anyway.

Supplementary note: I checked to see what other ‘Midnight’ books were available – and found that thought-to-be-dead-twin-Kev has a book of his own – No. 7 in the series.

I Spent the entire book thinking it must have been written by a large biker chic. Or possibly a dude. The plot was mildly interesting if predictably implausible, but the sex scenes were just excessive and rough to the point of being silly.

I read only about 20 percent and skimmed parts of the rest (mostly the ones involving naked bodies) because after 15 pages I hated the book with the passion of a thousand suns. This book held my interest some of the time. I found the initial premise for the characters, Sean and Olivia, meeting again after 15 years of separation somewhat forced. There were many aspects of both Sean and Olivia’s characters that simply didn’t ring true.

Can't believe I'm writing this, but… this book has too much sex and it undermines the chemistry and emotional buildup of Sean and Olivia's relationship.

You'll find lots of hot sex here--the man's a sex machine. I liked the hero--a lot more unusual and complex than usual. Liked the heroine too although she doesn't have a lot to make her distinctive compared to him. There's lots of tension/action here as well. I loved this book as much as the 3 books in the series before it. I really like that the characters from the previous books where also in this book.
Sean was a total hunk! Oh he had some problems just as Davy did but boy the guy sure knew how to go to it between the sheets, lol!
I liked Liv too. She was smart, witty, brave and not a perfect size 5. She did cry a bit, but who would not after going through what she did.

Loved it.

Another romantic suspense thriller from Shannon McKenna. This one centers around Sean McCloud, the ladies man and former military mercenary. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. It was hard to put down. Good story, good characters, lots of sex. It is like an exciting roller coaster ride. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: about fifteen. Wow. There was lots o sex in this book. Id venture to say roughly 1/3 of the book was sex. It’s a big book too. I read while I’m at work. That was awkward.

Sex aside, this was my first McKenna and aside from the similarities with our names, I didn’t connect with the story much. I guess I have a hard time believing the jump back into your first loves bed without much thought…without really having been there in the first place. I liked this one as well, still not as well as Davy's book, but whatever!!! :-) I loved the ending, it was very sweet...I even got a little misty eyed. Sean is made out to be the wittiest, cutest, most smart mouthed of the three brothers and I couldn't wait to read about him. I am sorry to say that that is the only reason I gave this book 5 stars. While the character development and love between Sean and Liv is great, this story is so far fetched that at times I felt I was reading a science fiction novel, not to mention that the dates and timelines don't match up which takes away from the story. I would probably give this book a higher rating, but I'm just so sick of all the man-sluts in books these days. If it isn't okay for the heroine to have slept with hundreds of men, why should it be okay for the hero to have slept with hundreds of women. Ick.
If you can ignore his extreme promiscuity (and several other moments of his sheer stupidity), this is a decent book.

Liked this one quite a lot. Interesting characters, good suspense. Would not recommend for those who do not like erotic romance, but was nice to read erotic romantic suspense that was good on both counts. A little too much sexxoring after a while, but other than that I liked. Also heroine was a librarian which is always a plus in my book:)

Another one of Shannon's crazy psycho bad guys. Where she comes up with these guys I don't know. I really liked this story. The characters were great. I loved the sensative side of Sean. Great sex scenes...even something I never heard of before. If you want to know what it is, you'll just have to read it.

Loved this book. best in the series so far. It is packed with action and the story is very good. lots of sweet and hot moments between Sean, the youngest McCloud brother and his HEA Liv. She is a strong character, no super heroine but intelligent and loving.

Wow...I have not written a review for this book...I was browsing Baba's best sex scenes shelf and this one was on it...FOR GOOD REASON, PEOPLE!!!

Sean is a dirty, nasty, messy, delicious peice of flesh! He has burried his pain from the past in the body/bodies of women for nearly a decade. Manwhore does even begin to touch Sean's rep.

But when Liv comes back into his life...all bets are off. Sean is single minded in his pursuit and uses every skill he has honed while boned to make her his!

I love McKenna's books, and the Mc Cloud series is a pure pleasure to read. This particular story is loaded with interesting situations and characters, plus the always extra-evil villains.

I hated this book so much that I almost swore off Shannon McKenna. The main guy, Sean McCloud, is seriously a big loser. He's obsessively in love with this fat girl (whom he constantly refers to as "the goddess"). Of course, all she does is spite him and treat him like dirt. Ugh. I hated this book. Only read it if you like heroes that have no dignity, no shame, and no self-respect. And if you enjoy reading about mean, hateful fat girls.

This was definitely the last book of this author I read. Lines up neatly into the line of the first three of this series.
I give her one thing, she is really capable of creating very creepy villains. But her "romance" is not my cup of tea.
