Sisterchicks in Sombreros (Sisterchicks #3)
Two Canadian sisters inherit beachfront property in Mexico and take off on an adventure to claim their inheritance. They travel opulently by cruise ship to Ensenada and survive a rocky trip through Baja California, only to be shocked when they arrive in San Felipe. Their beachfront property is, indeed, on the beach, but the “structure” is a cement slab and the Airstream tr...more

Robin Jones Gunn is one of my favorite authors, and her books almost always are written for one audience but are appreciated by a much wider group of people. Sisterchicks In Sombreros is no exception.

Probably my least favorite of the Sisterchicks books. Reminded me of the cruise to Mexico that Rosa and I took years ago - minus an allergic reaction to my first massage. Favorite quote was from Augustine:
"I came to love you late. O Beauty so ancient and new; I came to love you later. You were within me and I was outside where I rushed about wildly searching for you like some monster loose in your beautiful world. You were with me, but I was nt with you. You called me, you shouted to me. You bro...more

The story is about two sisters who inherit a piece of beach front property in Mexico and travel by cruise ship to check it out. The book was a little hard to get into at first. The message I take with me from the book--"I don't want to get in the way or hinder You from fulfilling any of the plans You had for...more
Gunn's third Sisterchicks novel offers the expected chick-lit emphasis on female friendship, enhanced by this series' usual formula of a girlfriends' getaway. In this case, the "sisterchicks" are actual sisters—two 40-something Canadian women who inherit what they are told is prime real estate on the coast of Mexico, and run for the border to check it out. Melanie, the book's narrator, is a born organizer and worrywart who, rather predictably, discovers joy in Christ and in her free-spirit siste...more

These are well written and don't hang together. Wonderful spiritual insights.

Robin’s first grade teacher wrote on her report card, “Robin keeps the entire class entertained at rug time with her stories.”
Even with such an early affirmation, Robin didn’t think much about becoming a writer during high school or college. She was more intrigued by the idea of traveling to foreign lands and telling people about God’s love.
But Robin’s husband also noticed her gift for storytellin...more
