I’ve really started enjoying this series and those sexy Wyoming cowboys! And thankfully, with the last couple books I’ve found the stories to be not only burn up the pages hot, but also sweet and romantic and the storylines more believable than the earlier books.

Its also been tied together again with an awesome story; encompassing ranch life, love, heartache, the occasional dust up and of course family. You know real life kinda stuff. I’m finding this series seriously addictive and almost impossible to put down. It seems I’ve fallen hard for those wild, sexy, and charming MacKay boys, even if most of the time I can’t keep their names straight. Now all I need is a blue-eyed/black haired cowboy of my very own to play with. I’ve also got to stop talking like I’m from Wyoming Y’all because I live in Canada and my family thinks I’ve lost it.

We first met Kade and Skylar in Cowgirl Up and Ride where they had several dates and an unprotected romp in the back of a pick-up before goin their separate ways. 12 months later cattle rancher Kade McKay returns to town only to learn that he’s a daddy. Thing is though he wants to be a dad. Never mind stepping up to the plate Kade runs, embracing his new daddy status with pure delight. Given half a chance he’d also like to be a husband but independent business woman Skylar Ellison has some trust issues and won’t give an inch despite his constant marriage proposals. She’s also pretty sure he’s just asking because of the baby.

Within days Kade and Skylar move in together, under the pretence that they’ll live platonically, just sharing in the parenting duties. (Yeah right) Anyways, Kade agrees to play by her rules long enough for Skylar to see that he’s in this for the long haul. (He might love her a bit too) Since this is a Roughriders book the arrangement lasts like one chapter before desire takes over. At first their sex life is perfunctory however once Kade convinces Skylar that sex really is better with the lights on and not in the missionary position (or even indoors for that matter) things evolve to a whole new level of passion. Kade ultimately takes complete control in the bedroom; instilling the “Nekkid rule” and making quick use of some ropes, leaving Skylar in an unfamiliar ‘sub’ position but very satisfied. However nothing worth having ever comes easy. And just because Skylar’s given her body to Kade doesn’t mean she’s going to hand him the reins to her heart too. Just how much one sided lovin will this cowboy take before he finally hit’s the dusty trail?

Kade is just lovely as our cowboy daddy, he’s sweet, honest and hardworking (plus he likes a girl with curves) and in all honesty Skylar doesn’t deserve him. Of course theres a whole lot of other stuff going on here too and fans of the series won’t be disappointed. Cheers(less)

I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but when it comes to Lorelei James's "Rough Rider" series, the lady can do no wrong! If you enjoy some hot romance featuring sexy, lovable cowboys who sometimes need some taming from the women in their lives, then this series is a no-brainer! I just love the rowdy McKay boys and their West cousins and the whole big, boisterous, nosy family, but I think (so far) Kade McKay has to be my favorite hero of the bunch. He's just a wonderful combinati...more I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but when it comes to Lorelei James's "Rough Rider" series, the lady can do no wrong! If you enjoy some hot romance featuring sexy, lovable cowboys who sometimes need some taming from the women in their lives, then this series is a no-brainer! He's just a wonderful combination of beta/alpha hero, that he gives even Elec Monroe (from Flat-Out Sexy) a run for his money for perfect husband material! My only question is, why did it take Skylar Ellison (the heroine) so darn long to figure that out?

I'm not going to go into a long summation of the plot, except to say that businesswoman Sky and cattle rancher Kade shared a promising past, but their relationship fell apart because of a sin of omisssion. A baby was conceived following a wild coupling in Kade's pickup in a parking lot(!), but Sky never told Kade about being pregnant. Upset with the breakup of his relationship, Kade goes off to work in some out-of-the-way part of his family's ranch where he can't be reached. A year later he's back in town and is floored by the discovery that he's a father. He's thrilled with the idea of being a dad and he has no intention of walking away and insists on moving in with Sky and the baby. He wants to marry Sky but she keeps telling him 'no'. (She thinks the only reason he wants to marry is because of the baby.) Will Sky forgive him for his past slip up and accept him back into her (and the baby's) life or turn her back on the best thing that could ever happen to her? Will Sky be able to give up some of her hard won control when it comes to decisions involving her life and her business or will she let her past failed relationship come between her future with Kade?

Let me say a few words about sweet Kade McKay...I loved this guy! I already figured he was a keeper after reading about him in the previous books. Although he definitely had an alpha side to him (in the bedroom), he was no way as domineering as say maybe his cousin Colby from Long Hard Ride.:) This guy was honest (okay, there was that sin of omission...), thoughtful, protective, wonderful with his baby daughter, had an even temperment, was a fantastic lover, and was sexy as all get-out. You could just see that he worshipped Skylar and the baby, so why did it take her so long to see it? Skylar should have hog tied him and never let him get away! She did have some problems from her past, and the author does a good job explaining and justifying Skylar's actions and her need to be in control of everyhting. Frankly I was amazed when Skylar let Kade take control in the bedroom, but the girl was no dummy-- she knew a good idea when she heard one. Kade did have a slightly kinky side (after all, he's a McKay) but he never did anything that Skylar wasn't on board with, never did anything mean or degrading or humiliating. Everything he did was for her pleasure and was done with respect and love.

Being a "Rough Riders" story, there were plenty of hot sex scenes (had to laugh at Kade's "nekkid rule"), but in no way did they get in the way of the story. Plenty of steamy encounters, including one outside in the rain, the obligatory shower sex, the hay field, the camper/ trailer, and of course, the four poster bed sex, where the title of the book comes into play. Each one was more emotional than the next, as the reader can feel that Kade and Sky are forging not just a physical bond, but an intimate, emotional connection as well. Some true sigh-worthy moments in this book.

Of course it wouldn't be a romance book unless there were some choppy waters to navigate too, and Sky and Kade do have a big argument near the end that tests their relationship. I was glad to see Sky swallow her stubborn pride and reach out to Kade and show her love for him. Of course, Kade being Kade, he had his own little proof-of-love surprise for Sky, and yes, that had me tearing up...

What else can I say? Another winner from Lorelei James, not that I'm surprised. This lady has clearly found the formula for creating an erotic romance with enough spice, enough plot, and likable characters you'll be rooting for. Not quite as good as my favorite, Cowgirl Up and Ride, but very, verrry close. 5 stars!

P.S.: A word of advice--do yourself a favor and go to the author's website and print up the McKay/West family tree found there. It makes the reading a whole lot easier, especially when the huge family meets up at various functions. At one point my head was spinning trying to keep track of who was who, but once I had that flowchart by my side, it was smooth sailing.:)

Right after they share a steamy interlude in his truck, Sky finds out the truth and tells him to get out of her life.

Kade, hurting from a family tragedy and Sky's rejection, takes a job working the family's remote part of the ranch for a year where he has very little communication with everyone. So when Sky tries to get a hold of him to tell him she's pregnant, she's told he's gone. It's not until Kade returns and baby Eliza is 3 months old that he finds out the truth. And immediately sets about making things right. He convinces Sky to let him move in with her and help take care of Eliza. Being a father comes naturally to him, but getting through Sky's defenses...well, that's a bit tougher. Kade finally realizes that he needs to take control of their bedroom life in order to get Sky to give him a chance. But though he gets her to submit sexually, winning her heart and trust is another thing all together.

For me, this book had a bit of a different vibe than the other books in the series, especially compared to Long Hard Ride. This one had a little more of a typical romance feel to it...well, except for the sex, cuz that was definitely hotter than normal. But in general, this book was a bit more home and family than the others in the series.

Which wasn't a bad thing, just different. It does take away some of the 'Wild McKays' aspect...there's none of the outthere craziness that's in the other books. So you have to shift your expectations a little bit before reading so you don't go in expecting menages, group sex, and the like. This is very much a one-on-one story.

I enjoyed reading about Kade, though, and how quickly he bonded with baby Eliza. It was very sweet and tender. Sky is a little bit of a hardass, but she's still likable. Their romance worked well in the story.

There is a bit of a dominance/submission aspect to the story, but it's kinda light-hearted. Kade takes control in the bedroom, giving orders and whatnot, but there's no humiliation or serious force. It's mostly him pushing Sky's boundaries. And there is some bondage - rope play - but again, it's on the light-hearted side...more of a playful feel than serious bondage.

I also liked catching up with all the other McKays and Wests. They're such a fun bunch. And we finally get to me Cam! I think he's going to be an interesting one to read about. But India (Sky's sister) is the one I really can't wait to read about...which I won't have to wait long for. She (and Cord) are the H/H of book 6, Branded As Trouble. Definitely looking forward to seeing those two hook up.

But all in all, this was a good book. It's a little different in tone than the previous three books - which, hey, you wouldn't want all the books to be the same - but it's an enjoyable erotic romance. I think those of you reading this series will like it. Just don't go in expecting some of the wild, crazy scenes that are in the previous books.

Kade McKay was a good-looking cowboy whose entire (very large) extended family encompassed almost the entire population of Wyoming (it's not heavily populated--too darn windy--and I've smelt the sage the author mentions in a description). Kade was a super neat guy--unbelievable--but for the book, I went with it. :-)

Liked how the author started with the story, then gave the background info. Excellent story-writing, nicely written, descriptive. Kudos! This was my first by this author.

There was a misconception between Kade and Skylar that caused a 13-month riff. Kade, unsure what to do about it, volunteered to go to a remote place (in Wyoming that is entirely possible!) for a year to test the grazing for cattle...(no comment.). During that time, Skylar finds out she's pregnant with his child. She tries to get in touch with Kade, but no can do, so she does what she's always done. She pulls up her bootstraps and handles things herself. Three months after Eliza is born, Kade returns and finds out he's a father. After the initial shock--quickly--he decides to become a very hands-on dad and moves in with Skylar.

Skylar let Kade move in without much fuss. He goes from moving in to her house to moving in to her bedroom before the first night and she lets him. But they sleep together in her room only because Eliza is there. No messing around--her rules. Several weeks go by and their attraction can no longer be denied. Things heat up and Kade decides he has to have Skylar's complete submission in the bedroom since she "controls" everything else. Whatever. He wasn't that bad and found him to be very sweet.

There was an awful lot of info on Eliza (the baby), Kade's extended family, etc that made up the bulk of the book. There was one minor suspense-like scene that built up, but fizzled. Because of the suspense tease, I was looking for a tad more in the plot, but this was clearly an erotic, modern romance. If you are looking for suspense, look elsewhere.

Many previous/future characters are mentioned--or actually appear--and though I haven't read others it didn't throw me.(less)

I loved this book as much as the others but was only able to give it 4 stars simply because I wanted to punch Skylar in the face!!! I mean seriously, Kade McKay is about as perfect as a man can get. As much as I adore all the McKay men, for me Kade has always been just a little bit different and his personality reminds me of my husband of almost 25 years. So, when Didi asked if we were interested in reviewing the Rough Riders series, I jumped up and down and shouted “me, me, I want to review Tied Up, Tied Down!” Let me tell you it was a huge sacrifice to have to read this story for something like the 10th time…NOT!

Tied Up, Tied Down is the fourth book in Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series. To date there are twelve Rough Riders books published with four more planned, but Tied Up, Tied Down remains my favorite in the series. I know the title confused a lot of people when this book first came out. Many expected it to have a huge BDSM theme to it. Yes, there is some light bondage but if you want to explore the BDSM theme, read Cowboy Casanova. This book is about Kade McKay and Skylar Ellison who had a brief affair during the third book Cowgirl Up and Ride. Kade does a really stupid thing and Skylar sends him packing. Kade, who is known in his family as Mr. Always Does the Right Thing, is devastated by their break up and volunteers to move north for a year long ranching experiment. The book opens with Skylar finding out she is pregnant after their first and only sexual encounter. Skylar tries (although somewhat half heartedly) to let Kade know about her pregnancy, but doesn’t succeed. Once Kade is home, he is confronted by his mother who has figured out that he’s the father of Skylar’s baby. I love Kimi McKay and the scene in which she confronts Kade makes me love her even more. Kade immediately goes to Skylar and then pretty much tells her that he’s moving in with her and Eliza (their baby) so he can learn how to be a father.

I know many of you are thinking that this is going to be some boring book about a couple and their baby. That is the FARTHEST thing from the truth. Personally, I feel that the sex scenes in this book far surpass those in many of Lorelei’s other books. Maybe it’s because we already know Kade loves Skylar and those emotions are there, maybe it’s because every woman wants to feel they are the center of their man’s universe, or maybe it’s because Kade is the most smokin’ hot specimen of man on earth. There are some off the chart scenes that are guaranteed to melt your panties. My favorites include the scene in the horse trailer, the one in front of the mirror in the hallway, the one in the rain and mud which is followed up by the one in the shower. Whew….I want a cigarette and I don’t even smoke! I dare anyone to read this book and not get hot and bothered.

I’d like to tell you that Kade and Skylar’s relationship is a bed of roses, but the truth of the matter is Skylar is one seriously messed up lady. She has had some major stuff go on in her life including a crappy ex-husband that makes her distrust men in general and also makes it hard for her to let anyone get close to her. As an independent businesswoman, she is strong and in control. Kade, being Kade is a patient guy and he works to break down her defenses and does a pretty decent job of it. Things are going pretty well until Kade confronts and gets into a fight with one of her employee’s husbands and they both say some really hateful things to one another. Kade leaves and talks with his cousins who basically tell him that he’s done everything in his power to make Skylar happy and he needs to let her figure it out and come to him. Thankfully it doesn’t take Skylar long and all is right with the world.

Not only is Tied Up, Tied Down a great love story, it has some mind-boggling love scenes, and a family that you automatically want to be a part of. While I love the story of Kade, Skylar and of course Eliza, this book is about so much more. The interactions of the entire family at the rodeo, at the bar-b-que (Cam’s homecoming…tears to my eyes), and then the scene with all the guys at the Golden Boot is what keeps me coming back for more and more. This book by far gives us the best look into the family dynamics of the McKay/West families and therefore I give it 5 stars. If I could give it more, I would. I love it that much.

That being said, while you can read every one of these books as a stand alone I truly feel you will get more out of them if you read them from the beginning. So start with the first one Long, Hard Ride and don’t let that one scare you off. Keep reading them, you won’t be sorry!

Kade is absofreakinlutey smokin hot!!! I love, love how he manned up. Sklar is a lucky woman. This is one of my favorites of the series, which says alot because they are all my favorite =)

This will be my 5th read of this book, I coulda swore I left a review cause I LURVVVV me some Kade, but it dissappeared. I will definitely write one when I finish this time. (less)

I love me some Kade McKay. He's gotta be the sweetest of these rough and tough ranchers in the Rough Rider series. The romance of Kade and Skylar starts out towards the end of the third book when Skylar mistakes him for his womanizing twin brother Kane. Instead of correcting his identity to her, he plays the part of Kane but makes things right with Skylar....until she finds out he's been lying to her. This is only after a night of crazy unprotected sex..... She dumps him.

This is the fifth rough riders book I have read, and all the others have been four and five star reads for me, so I think the fact that I didn't like this one says way more about *me* than about the book or the series (I still plan to read the rest as I love James' voice!). That said, if you are new to the series, I would start with Cowgirl Up and Ride as it's the most "mainstream" and is an easy book to fall in love with. A lot of readers apparently also find Tied Up, Tied Down a great introduc...more This is the fifth rough riders book I have read, and all the others have been four and five star reads for me, so I think the fact that I didn't like this one says way more about *me* than about the book or the series (I still plan to read the rest as I love James' voice!). That said, if you are new to the series, I would start with Cowgirl Up and Ride as it's the most "mainstream" and is an easy book to fall in love with. A lot of readers apparently also find Tied Up, Tied Down a great introduction to the series, but the secret baby trope almost never works for me, even under the best of circumstances. Here, Skylar gets pregnant as a result of a one-night stand, calls to tell him (at least she tried!), and is told that he is gone (by his surly twin with whom Skylar doesn't get along with at all). That is the only effort she makes to tell him, despite living in an around populated 90% by people related to him, any one of whom would be happy to relay a message to him.

She goes along on her merry way, has a baby, and then when Kade's mother walks into Skylar's store and sees the baby, she immediately knows a) That it's a McKay baby, b) that it's HER McKay grandbaby as opposed to one of the 9 zillion fertile McKay cousins, and c) that it's Kade's (as opposed to the evil Kane). This despite the fact that the baby is a girl and McKay's don't have girls. Seriously did not like Kade's mama, even without her built-in Baby DNA tester ability. Kade goes to confront Skylar and somehow in the space of seriously less than FIVE MINUTES of talking, he totally assumes the father role and talks Skylar into letting him move in. And then mere hours later, when it's bedtime, she agrees to share a bed with Kade so that he can help with the baby overnight duties.

Um. No. The Rough Riders are supposed to be pure cowboy escapism fantasy, but I just couldn't turn off the Mama part of my brain. She lets a man whom she has had just a few dates with (and never wanted contact with again and intended to never let meet his kid) move into her house? And into her bed? When Walmart has a baby monitor for 10 bucks? Which they later get to allow them to have nookie while the baby sleeps. And as this is a Lorelei James book, they do have a lot of nookie--more than any other parents of a tiny baby I know of.

This is just my own pet peeve here, but Skylar, our vegetarian, hippy, all-natural body products business owner, who is so committed to earth motherhood that she has an onsite daycare, is bottle feeding. Which isn't the end of the world, but it just didn't fit the character at all, and as James has done an awesome job of showing other returning characters nursing, it struck me as a choice made to make it easier for the characters to have no-holds-barred love scenes, to get childcare, and to let Kade help in the night. All of which just reinforces a lot of myths of nursing, and just didn't sit right with me. (And sure, maybe she wasn't able to make it work for her, but a woman like her would have been sad enough about that fact to at least mention it). (Oh and it is possible to have love scenes with a woman who is still breastfeeding--Catherine Anderson's Baby Love is a great example.)

And Skylar is also just darned unlikable. And boring. And Kade, while being an awesome father, is also rather boring when he's not doing cute things like wearing the baby around the ranch and talking to her. His twin brother, Kane, suddenly decided to call himself "Buck" in this book, which while funny, added a whole another layer of confusion to the McKay family name game. This book just didn't click for me at all, but I'm still obsessed with this series, and I really want to read the Colt/Brandt/Kaylee books still. I may skip Kane or save him for last just because I'm not sure if I can love a guy who renames himself "Buck." (less)

Sounds like a broken record.. But Lorelei can do no wrong in this series. She gives us everything we need in a erotic romance novel. Plenty of male brooding by a strong cowboy and a strong heroine. And as always plenty of hot, steamy sex!! You will feel all emotions when reading this book and all the books in this series!! Can't wait for the next one!!

Just a re-read..again!! Kade is probably my favorite McKay, as of now!! LOL!!

Tied Up, Tied Down was just OK for me. I thought Kade and Skylar were a good couple, but all of her issues started to grate on my nerves. This one was a little different than the others in the series for a few reasons. Mainly, it was different because there was no secondary love story going on and there wasnt much focus on the rodeo aspect. I also don't remember Trevor getting married-- that one threw me for a loop. I guess the next book is about his struggle with his sexuality and love for 2 people. It was another good one for this series.

I'm reading the Rough Riders series in order, whenever I want a fix of hot cowboy action. Kade McKay is the nice twin to his difficult brother Kane, and towards the end of book #3, Kade fell for Skylar when she thought he was his brother. Complicated? That's nothing! The McKay clan gets ever larger and more tangled with each book.

This is my 2nd book in the series and I was slightly disappointed, but that is just me, I do not like heroines in a romance novel who do not want to be there!!. Kade was a super nice guy who is gorgeous inside and out. He takes responsibility for his actions and becomes the most amazing father to Eliza and in all honesty I do not think Skylar deserves Kade.

Kade is determined to do what is right by his baby girl and her mother, so after meeting his daughter Eliza, he moves in with Skylar so he can be there to help out. Everything from making dinner and doing the grocery shopping to getting up in the middle of the night to feed Eliza, Kade is there to help Skylar out, and she appreciates it. After some time though, Skylar wonders if Kade is no longer attracted to her. After all, they are sharing a bed and he has not made a single move on her.

Enter romance into the story. At the beginning Kade and Skylar are parenting partners, and that’s good, but they want each other and make no move to do anything about it. The sexual tension is great, and when they finally give into the passion again, it makes for some explosive love scenes.

I really liked Tied Up, Tied Down. This is probably my favorite of the series behind book 3. I don’t want to give away anything to those who have not read book 3 already, so I will just say that after reading Cowgirl Up and Ride I was wondering what would happen next with Kade and Skylar.

Skylar is one of my favorite female characters in the series. She’s had a rough past, but she has managed to make a life for herself. She is strong and independent. She is a leader, runs her own business, and looks out for those around her. While that is all fine and dandy, she is made more human by the fact that she does still have doubts. All those little things that women think of in real life like, does he not want me anymore because my figure is different, she goes through that. She is strong, but she still has feelings and she is easy to relate to, something I value in a character.

Kade had his own process that he goes through. Because he and Kane are identical twins and Kane happens to be a jerk, Kade is constantly judged by his brother or mistaken to be his brother and treated like shit for something he did not actually do. This along with the suprise baby girl, who is a huge deal because Keely is the only other McKay born girl for several generations, gives Kade great depth as a character. He is learning to be a father and dealing with the backfiring of his brother and cousins actions.

I have to mention the family party scene. It was awesome, and a bit out of control. There are a lot of McKay’s and a lot of West’s and when you put the two together, it gets even crazier. Kids everywhere, other McKay women talking about everything from babies to their husbands, it’s a bit hectic. But I love when the whole family gets together in the books because it makes for interesting story time, and in this one, it’s no different.

Seeing as how it is Lorelei James I’m talking about I have to say that this book has a lot of heat. When compared to her other books, the sex in Tied Up, Tied Down is quite tame, but it is no less steamy. Remember to keep that in mind when looking for a good, sexy read.

When it comes down to basics, I love how Kade and Skylar overcome their differences, clear up miscommunications, and work through trust issues to become the hardworking successful couple they are. The two get to know each other on a deeper level than before and build a relationship on a good sturdy base. They are devoted t each other and their daughter, and that happily ever after we all love is most certainly achieved.(less)
