The first half of this book examining the role of the imagination in poetry is terrific, and James's insights into the poetic imagination and how it shapes a poem, is topnotch (plus there's a delightful chapter in which he takes on Richards's Defense of Poetry--if only all criticism were this sarcastic and funny). The second section of the book, with its readings of Keats, Coleridge, and late Shakespeare is smart, but lacking the panache of the first half).
