Lisbon was the right place to be during World War II when the rest of Europe was desperate. Just like in the movie Casablanca, a plane to Lisboa meant a plane to freedom and peace. This is the portrait of the city that was ready for war but always avoided it, where spies and refugees arrived everyday. Where Vivien Leigh and Leslie Howard attended their last movie's premieres, Howard's plane beng shot down by Germans after it left the Lisbon airport.
