What a fun novel! This is my first by Laurenston. Many of my friends have raved about her novels (and this series in particular), and now I can see why. It is a delight.

Sara’s life has never been easy. Her mother died when she was an infant. When she was fourteen and out hiking with her father they were attacked by mountain lions. Her father died, and she was scarred for life on her face and leg. Then her super-cranky grandmother adopted her and moved her from northern California to a small town in Texas.

Six months ago her grandmother died, one of the major highpoints in Sara’s life (yeah, grandma was nuts in a very mean way). Now in her twenties and working at a friend’s motorcycle shop, Sara thinks she is dying as well, because the pain from her old leg injury has been increasing rapidly.

Then Zach shows up at the shop with his motorcycle gang. Zach is a totally yummy, shapeshifting wolf, and he is next in line to be Alpha of his pack, which also happens to be the pack Sara’s parents belonged to. No coincidence there. Zach comes to this tiny Texas town for three reasons. First, to protect Sara from the pride of shapeshifting mountain lions who killed her parents and can finally finish the job now that her psycho grandmother is out of the way. Second, to inform Sara of her heritage and take her back with the pack to her real home. That’s right. Sara has no idea she is a shapeshifting wolf. She just thinks she’s weird and verrry aggressive (grin).

Third, to discover Sara is an Alpha herself and his perfect mate (yup, he doesn’t know about this one yet, and he is realllly aggravated when he finds out). Why? Because Sara is like Sookie in a bad mood (from the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire series). And she’s not leaving Texas, especially not with a man who believes in shapeshifting wolves.

This is a hysterically funny, incredibly hot, PNR erotica novel. Laurenston is an excellent writer. The dialogue is snappy and realistic for the characters. The plot is smooth and moves at a good pace (not too fast, not too slow). The plot is also simple, and the secondary characters are well defined, yet not too numerous to be confusing. Yeah, I like this series, even though (as everyone knows) I’m not a fan of Were novels. But I intend to read all of these. This is definitely another winner for Samhain Publishing!

This was an unexpected find and a quick, easy read. Though the story was short, it didn't seemed rushed at all. I loved the characters and the interesting development of the story.

In a nutshell, Sara is raised human by a local pack alpha--never knowing shifters exist. As she matures, her aggression as a (pack) leader becomes a very dominant emotion in her life. Ok. Ummm... No.

I think the polite way to put it is that this was an "interesting take" on the werewolf theme.

I wanted to like Sara, but it was hard to. She was all over the place but I settled for just not liking her. Zach didn't even seem to like her, and I had to agree with him but then he went and fell in love with her, so I was left by myself on the not-liking front.

I really, really disliked Sara! I don´t have a problem with alpha females in general, but she was over the top. Too harsh and too b!tchy (no pun intended) for my taste. I liked Zach a little better but, by the end of the book, I wasn´t so sure if he truly loved Sara. I don´t know, something about them didn´t "click" with me, and that´s a problem when it comes to a romance book.

Eh. There are reasons I'm not a huge PNR fan, and this book contains more than a couple of those reasons. Some PNR kicks it up a notch and actually gives us a bit of plot and character development along with the sexy times. And some doesn't. This book falls into the latter.

I find it to be a major cop out when characters are so crazy sexually attracted to each other because of their shifter half, even thought they don't know each other and/or can't stand each other. So basically, the author doesn't have to try to create a believable relationship because

Ok, so we have these 2 characters who can't stand each other, but really want to rub on each other for no reason other than the wolf bit. So they finally succumb to their hormones, and have a wild night of crazy, rough, animal sex. Guess what? Now they love each other! How romantic is that? And when I say crazy, rough, animal sex, I'm being literal--there was no kindness, no tenderness, no gentleness. Not even a teensy bit. But did I mention that they're in wuv? Soooooo believable.

And throw in the fact that the chick talks about her own sexual organs using the word "pussy" repeatedly. I guess I'm a prude, but it grossed my shit out. Honestly, male would walk into the room, and female would think to herself, "Holy shit. My pussy is so wet." :vomit:

And...male repeatedly called female wonderful terms of endearment like "crazy bitch", "insane bitch", "psycho bitch", etc. while he was screwing her. I think it was supposed to be funny, but I just thought it was stupid.

Oh, and don't let me forget the chick's two best girlfriends. Holy shit--what a bunch of psychos. Was this supposed to be an example of healthy female relationships? Because all they did was fight and insult each other. Little friendship tip: Telling your friend she has a fat ass is not being "honest", it's being a cruel bitch.(less)

As the immense pain caused by the accident, which left the scars on her body, intensifies, Sara is finding it hard to pretend anymore. How long can she keep up the drinking, and finding reasons to get in to bar fights? Until a group of bikers show up on her home turf, and the sexy Zach makes an appearance. Sara starts feelings things, and she is feeling like an animal.

Zack does one thing and one thing only protects his pack. He has job to lookout for a female who has no idea she is a shifter, and he is finding himself wanting this woman with a serious chip on her shoulder (more like a branch). Zack knows Sara is one-step from crazy, but he wants her bad. He came to Texas to do job, not to find a mate and her crazy friends.

Therefore, to add some action, another bunch of shifters wants Sara dead in the name of pride, honour, revenge and all that. A crazy lion shifter cannot let bygones be bygones. Sara deals with being a wolf shifter like pro, which explains why her fuse is so short and easily combustible. In addition, why she feels like an animal when it comes to Zack and all she wants to do is rut, rut, and rut some more.

I liked the fact that Sara is one crazy B.I.T.C.H, with an attitude problem and no manners to speak of. Sometimes all these perfect heroines becomes tiresome, here’s a woman with flaws and all that. Zack is sexy, and knows how to throw down, nothing surprising here. I look forward to her friend’s book cus they be crazy. I realized that I like my women crazy *who know*. This is light fluffy and will go buy in no time, if you looking to laugh a little then this book is for you.

Pack Challenge is a wicked, hilarious, sarcastic, raunchy romp of a read. It's the first book in a trilogy & the first Shelly Laurenston that I've read & believe me, I will definitely be reading more.

Sara works at a chopper shop, chills with her outrageous & slightly psychotic pals Angie & Miki & is completely unaware of her unusual heritage. She is a slightly damaged, very aggressive, antagonistic girl who has no idea how attractive she is to just the right male.

#1 Magnus Pack series

ROFL funny, just as highly entertaining and enjoyable as the author's "Pride" series (also about shifters).

In Pack Challenge, Sara is minding her own business, working at the chopper (motorcycle) shop & hanging out with her two outrageously funny friends.

Once Zach and his biker pals roar into town on their motorcycles, Sara's life is turned upside down. Hilarity ensues, along with a very good plot. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Pack Challenge was such a fun read! We are dropped into Sara Morrighan's life and once Zach Sheridan arrives, you wish you could roll around in it with him forever.

Shelly's writing was spot on. Sara and her girl friends are a riot, Zach and his shifter friends are hot and the romance between Zach and Sara isn't rushed much.

I am anxious to read Miki's book, Go Fetch!. I look forward to reading more of this series and more written by Shelly Laurenston.

I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud reading this book! The stuff that came out of these characters mouths and things they thought were hilarious at times!

All the characters were great, well developed. Tons of dialogue which I like. This was a humorous, happy shapeshifter book. Not your typical serious and angsty paranormal romance. The most unique thing about this series is easily the tone of the story. These people have opinions and they are not afraid to share them, and if you attempt to leave before they are done talking they will cheerfully staple your butt to the chair to help you pay attention. Sara, the leading lady of the book, and her two best friends, Miki and Angelina, are a trip. The profanity abounds, the slap fighting is nonstop, and bad, bad things will happen if you let these women anywhere near an open bar. Just don't do it.

Into the melee rides wolf shifter Zach Sheridan and his Pack. Turns out, Sara is the daughter of one of their Packmates who was killed, and now that her psycho grandmother is dead, they can approach her and welcome her into the shifter world. This is a good thing, because the debilitating and disfiguring injuries that Sara suffered in the attack that killed her father have pretty much defined her life ever since, and she's looking to move beyond them.

Sara's journey down the path of finding out about the supernatural world and her place in it is something that you'll have to read for yourself to fully appreciate, but I will say that my favorite thing about this book was definitely the tone of the relationship between Sara and Zach. Sara is not a standard heroine in the sense that she is, for the most part, totally average- average looking except for being really tall and solid, has physical issues that need to be dealt with, not super rich or super well connected or anything, just extremely loyal to people she calls her own. Zach on the other hand is easy on the eyes but definitely a loner who enjoys bossing people around. He will also cheerfully crush the larynx of anyone who so much as thinks a disparaging thought about Sara in any capacity, as in his eyes she's the most beautiful thing on the planet and always will be. The added element of neither of them ever wanting children is a unique facet as we all know how common the "they lived happily ever after with a little bundle of joy on the way" ending is.

This story, and this whole series really, is the kind of story I can see myself reading over and over again, and coming back to when I've had a stressful day or need to take my mind off things. The price is also totally excellent- you have to love great books for $3.59!

shelly laurenston is a master word user (as you can see im not lol), this books was very well written, easy to read, had a great story line and the charactors are so out there your going to piss yourself laughing through this book..

Shelves: paranormal-romance

I've been in a reading doldrums of late, the books I've been reading ending up leaving me dissatisfied and just sort of "Meh," so I was really hoping Pack Challenge would shake that up a bit for me and break the ennui. I was pleasantly surprised. While lacking the depth of character development and plot of some of the masters of the paranormal romance genre, I enjoyed my first Laurenston book (it won't be my last), and both the world and shape shifters in it.
