True story--about 10 years ago, the parents' of a good friend of mine bought a car while wintering in Florida. They didn't want to drive it home, so they flew us down and we did the honors. My friend's mom gave us a stack of books on tape for the ride back. We had planned a bunch of stops and sightseeing, but after putting this on, we essentially drove straight through from Savannah, Ga, to Columbus, Oh. because we just couldn't bear to leave the story.

A priest in a small village in Italy hears the confession of a doctor that sends the priest to the Vatican immediately. Joe Lassiter has a large, successful, private investigative agency. Life is good. And then his sister and her young son are killed in a blast that burns their home to the ground. The fire was professionally set. Then he learns they were killed before the fire. Why? She was an NPR producer with a very ordinary life. This very well crafted story that is gripping until the last wo...more

Half Da Vinci Code, half Boys From Brazil. Does that sound like something you'd want to read? I didn't think so.

If this novel was half as good as the raves (from such literary giants as People) suggest, we'd be talking Pulitzer here. However, I wasn't impressed.
I found the dialogue tedious, and at times downright stupid. Our hero, who heads an investigation firm picked the most absurd times to decide his investigation would end.
And my God, he had a CRUCIAL piece of evidence that he carried in his pocket and neglected to get the damn thing translated from Italian or just plain forgot about it!!!

This "whydunnit" elevates itself over the common run of thrillers by its crisp writing and the careful, logical unfolding of the plot. Yes, I figured out most of what would have to happen, and why it happened, early in the book, but it was a delight to watch it unfold. The only bit of deus ex machina WTF-ery is the business with the letter at the end, which falls into the category of "all this could have been avoided if the character had only acted sensibly like a normal person....more

I thought the book was excellent!
You do have to get past that first chapter though, if you read it, don't be put off by the opening pages. They do play a big part in the book, and contain "need to know" info, but the story really opens up after it.
I would assume anyone that "didn't like" the book gave up on it too soon and never actually read the whole thing. While some books you can give a fair chance and still dislike them, this isn't one of "those".

I thought this was a fabulously told story! A scientific mystery that revolves around cloning and its possible ramifications. The main character was intelligently done, as was the secondary cast, and I was drawn deep into the storyline! The plot was faced-paced and the conclusion, superb. Intelligent, intriguing and immensely interesting!! Definately glad I read this one! Will certianly recommend it to others

Great beginning, had my on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what the great mystery was. Eventually got a little too long & I just wanted to keep reading to find the answers, but still it was interesting. Ended up way too cliche for me, but was overall an interesting and exciting science/adventure story.

I could have sworn that I'd read this book before since it's been on my bookshelf since my husband and I moved in together. It was his, but he'd never actually read it. Anyway, it didn't sound familiar to me at at as I read it, but it was very good, which a biological tie-in, which I always love.

John Case (a pseudonym for professional reasons) is undiscovered by most readers or else he'd be on the best seller list. He has everything you'd want in a suspense story: well-written, mystery, dead bodies, and he takes you to other locales, languages, customs, technology, and characters.

Suspenseful from page one forward. I don't want to ruin it for any that may pick it up, but it's full of lots of twists and turns, a diabolical sect of the Catholic church (always entertaining) and a main character with seemingly inexhaustable resources for security and information.

Slow to start, fun at the end. Not great enough to hold my attention on a beach or vacation, but fun enough to not want to walk away from. About t-cells and cloning, written before all that became 'common knowledge.' A good back to kick around during the summer.

A fairly decent biomedical thriller in which a scientist/theologian discovers the key to totipotency (or genetic differentiation). By isolating nucleated DNA from religious relics and implanting it into women he attempts to recreate God in man's image.

This book is ok... and maybe it got written before the Davinci Code (I'm not sure) but it's not at as good or as entertaining. And when it ends, you wonder why you got so into a book with such a terrible ending.

Case writes very engaging thrillers, and the Genesis Code is no let down. Terrorists, interesting characters, heroics, romance, all the elements of good escapist drama are here. Definitely worth checking out.

Another mundane over the top, run of the mill thriller involving demented cults with an ending that it unrealistic to the point of being laughable. In other words, don't bother.

I picked this book up at the airport on my way to my honeymoon, and just loved it! Lots of intrigue and just a fun read. Not as heavy as some other thriller/mysteries.

I really enjoyed this novel, although I think that the ending was a little weak and let it down. All to do with a religious conspiracy and murder this is a thrilling read.

This is my absolute favorite of all of John Case's books. My mom even loved it, and she's hard to please!
I'm just waiting to forget the story so I can read it again!

I love John Case. I believe he has only written three books but, I've found all three to be very good. If you read this one you'll get hooked!
