his Pride & Prejudice read alike is written by a young woman in London. It was P&P set in modern times and using fame rather than money coming between people. The people meet while acting in a P&P play. It was nice that several times these folks were laughing at themselves--showing insight into the parallels they were acting/living. The story was good in and of itself, but I get a little distracted with this type of book trying to figure out as each person is introduced--is she Charl...more

Boring, boring, boring. She didn't even /try/ to have any innovations on the plotline or the characters. I think she even stole some of the lines from the original book. Those she didn't she still attempted to sort of paraphrase in modern speak, very, very awkwardly. There was no independence of spirit here. Just a slavish, and very bad and insulting attempt at imitating Jane's plot. And boiling it down to its simplest and most brainless parts. ie: the two romances, with none of the interesting ...more

A modern adaptation of the classic novel Pride and Prejudice.
Jasmin Field is a journalist who is casted to play Lizzy Bennett in a one-night performance of Pride and Prejudice directed by the handsome and famous director/actor Harry Noble. While in rehearsals, she gets involved in a flirtation with the ever-charming William Whitby (casted to play Wickham) and develops a serious dislike for Harry Noble.

honestly, this is pure trash. good to read on a plane though. the author just takes the whole structure of p and p and plops it down into modern day london with her own vapid characters and yawning dialogue. she seems to think this is a clever trick: the characters are acting in p and p while Living Out the Plot Unbeknownst to Themselves.
how very meta.

to Bridget Jones fans
Normally I hate the drivel the Jane Austen-wannabes spit out for the industry, but this parody had me laughing, at least about the chocolate eating, larger-than-ideal/full-figured Jasmin. If you're an Austen purist, don't bother. If you're looking for more Bridget Jones-chick-lit fluff reading, take this up for some laughs.

This is a modern retelling of "Pride and Prejudice". I thought it was particulary well-written, and I enjoyed it very much. However, I lent it to a friend who loves P & P as much as I do, and she was offended by the language in this book. I just say it with a British accent, and I'm good, but you've been forewarned.

A quick, entertaining read, but it's no better than any of the other modern day retellings of Pride and Prejudice. A fellow P&P fanatic bought it as soon as she saw it, and had high hopes. After reading it, she was disappointed enough to give it to me. The plot, of course, is predictably predictable.

I was thoroughly charmed by this book. I liked the characters, I liked the parallels of Elizabeth and Darcy, I even liked the schmaltzy ending.
Usually I'm annoyed with chick-lit, but this book won me over from the very beginning.

The book was just okay. Anyone who has read Pride and Prejudice knows exactly how the story is going to go, and that takes out a lot of the fun. It's not a clever twist on an old classic; instead it's a step-by-step re-telling of the story.

Probably wouldn't recommend this one, although it was a quick, easy, exceedingly predicatable read. Modern day slightly naughty version with not much of a twist. Bottom line is that it's entertaining but doensn't have much merit.

Lots of fun - totally predictable, but in a good way... If you love P&P, this fun, upated, modern version is a great way to spend a winter afternoon - just a quick read with an entertaining story for the hopeless romantic

What a fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Cheesy yet cute. A fun, easy read that made me want to rewatch the movies and/or reread the original. Will I ever get sick of Pride and Prejudice. Brief swearing.

I really shouldn't give any rating on this book as I could not continue reading it. I am a fan of british chic-lit but this was not compelling. I was drawn in by the Pride and Prejudice aspect but really....

This book was great fun and clever, I was sad for it to end. I LOVED the parallel plot of Pride and Prejudice as the play and the real life of the characters in the play. Can't wait for this author's next book!

My sister gave me this book to read, and it wasn't bad, but I couldn't even finish it. I kept picking it up and putting it down again. Maybe it's not my type of book, though I'm a huge Austen fan.

this book reminds me so much of myself! Elizabeth is so stubborn, but somehow she manages to find the perfect man. (i'm stubborn, but i havent found the perfect man yet :)

Once again, totally enjoyed this book and the familiarity of the story. She is playing a part in a play and they are in real life who they are playing. Very entertaining.

So funny. Typically British.
Pride and Prejudice in a modern setting - without butchering the originial or sticking too close to it.
