Kinchloe et. al. discuss the idea of "hope in the trenches." This hope is based on teachers being able to teach to the students. These authors discuss teachers as being “high functioning transformers” which is a different way of looking at education. They also call the city an environment in which students can learn. It is the "cradle of education, creativity, and the future" (xxi). The authors are all educators and draw on their own experiences in their discussions of urban educational policy. ...more
