The first in this short series, The Hunt for Red October, was nominated for an Edgar for best first mystery. Rough Beast is the third (and I believe the last) featuring Ivan Duvakin. This one is set after the break up of the USSR and is set in Kazakhstan. Olcott was a professor of Russian studies who renders this novel (published in 1992) a believable, though grim, view of this SSR.
