So it looks like the public has once again put a piece of crap atop the best seller list. Wow! No plausible or comprehensible story line, with hardly a semblance of order to the "book" if you can even call it that. Then there's the extremely vague and undefined characters, one of which disappears for 30 years with absolutely no explanation. It seems that the author suffers from a complete amnesia concerning the concept of a run on sentence(I went pages without seeing a period just an en...more

Uh, God?
I'm working on a major project, and I figured, since I've got several books on my currently-reading list that I'm not likely to complete for years, I might as well add another, and share my progress here.
I am trying to read the entire Bible, as an adult, for real (no cheating, skimming, or skipping, not even dietary rules or geneologies). I have been meaning to do this since childhood, because, beyond the religious aspect, I feel that the Bible (or at least some big chunks of it) is essenti...more

The bible is my only favorite book. It has more stores than any other chapter book I know. Now I know you may have read or heard of the Old Testament (Genesis through Malachi) and basically what God is trying to pass on through his kingdom, is that there will be a prophet sent by him to Earth, in man form to declare deliverance, forgiveness, savior, and eternal life to all who believe in him. Then there is the New Testament which speaks of the prophet name Jesus who is our Jehovah Jeri, our king...more

These book makes a simple wise. A believer sees things and miracles happen. A light to guide our way.
The Psalmist once wrote and I quote: "How can a young man keep his way pure? by living according to your ways.."
"Thy word Have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you."
James once said: Thy word is like a mirror to our soul. yes I should have not sinned, or I should have make my path straight.. or I should not have been led astray... But life thought me ...more

surely god will smite me if i give this a star rating...?
poetic beginnings, lead into a terribly dry section where a family tree is written out. much better as a diagram! i nearly cried. but stick with it, it hots up with plenty of violence, blood, guts, rape, smiting, incest, double crosses to bear... it's not a one note symphony though, it's shot with moments of poetry and some sweet tales.
gets a bit preachy and do goodish in the second part, although the chapter Mark has a bit of spunk.

Uh... some people are taking this opportunity to preach to everyone about Jesus and god and all that but really, you should take a moment to think about how all those half-baked, crazy, fanatical religions really are based on this book, many can find basis just from the book of Genesis alone, and you're saying you are 100% on board so maybe you should stop shunning the muslims, the fundamentalists and those around you who are different from you.

I was actually going to try to read this like any other book. The language is killing me though! Its difficult to keep up with sometimes.. I keep giving up because I get frustrated with it. I feel like I am reading the same passage ten times before I understand what it is saying. Maybe I should try to find a version with a current language / dialect? Do they even have something like that?

I took an Old Testament class this semester and had an incredible teacher. Gained some amazing insights into the exodus, children of Israel, and the different dispensation heads. It is such a testimony to see how all things point to Christ and his atonement.

I finished the Old Testament this week! So, if you read about 6-7 pages a day, it takes six months to complete.

A cheap edition of the King James bible for literary studies. Relatively inexpensive, partly because it is not leather bound and comes without gilded leaves--also means this edition won't draw unwanted attention to yourself if you're the solitary, literary type who likes to read on the bus without having to deal with holy rollers or militant atheists alike.

Didn't really care for it.It's not that I think christianity is a bad thing it's just i dont belive in it. I dont belive that there can be one person who came up with the idea of making a world and suddenly being able to do it. It's one of those you have to see it to belive it. It was very repetative with the diffrent chapters. some were very hard to belive ever happening thousands of years ago in the middle east. Besides WERE ARE THE DINOSAURS? Did you ever think about that? how can you find th...more

The Bible: the ultimate in science fiction and fantasy.
It would be difficult if impossible to give the entire bible one review, so I'm going to review each book as I go.
Genesis: ****
Some top-notch fantasy stories: Adam & Eve, Cain & Abel, and Noah. We also have some historical fiction in the tales of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.
It would be 5 stars if there wasn't so much begetting.
Exodus: ****
The story of Moses and how he led the Israelites out of Egypt. Some go...more

I'm not sure it's this edition of the Bible, but when i was young i was riding around on my bike in the alleys of my neighborhood and happend to see a black book sitting atop a heap of trash in an overfilled garabage can. It turned out to be the Bible. I just thought it didn't belong there, so i took it and have kept it ever since. What's interesting about this version is that along with the actual biblical text there is a running text that appears to help the reader interpret what he is to thin...more

I think everyone should have a Bible. This book for me documents the moral history of people over time, and provides insight into consequences of actions. It provides help when looking for answers regarding heaven and where our loved ones are when they leave us here. It provides tips on how to love one another. How not to Judge one another and be a good neighbor. It documents how large civilizations lived poorly and the hard times that resulted from that. It documents basically every human ...more

This is, hands down, the best book ever written. It encompasses all the academic disciplines. It is full of the history of individuals and of nations in times of war and of peace. The people's histories tell of their enemies and of their lovers. Intertwined throughout it all is a love story more powerful than any man can imagine. It is of a Love that is strong enough to save a man from death. From this book I learned to know the only true God, know true love, know my purpose in life, and h...more
