Elizabeth Lowell's thriller Innocent as Sin continues her recent series of books featuring St. Kilda Consulting--her latest plot device for having studly, competent heroes run around with whip-smart, brave heroines, while things and people get shot at and other things explode and pasts get angsted over and crosses and double-crosses happen and oh yeah there's passionate smooching and sex, too.

In short, pretty much the perfect thing to read when you're sick. ;)

I picked up Elizabeth Lowell’s “Innocent as Sin” for more than one reason. First, it hit the NY Times Best Sellers list. I’d never heard of this author before and knew I had to read it. Another reason was our library has this book in audio format. That doesn’t sound like a good reason, but if you’d see my list of books to read for the next couple of months it would make sense. Audio is the only way I can fit another book in.

I try not to, but can’t seem to help myself. When a bo...more

Elizabeth Lowell has been an auto buy for me for over a decade, but slipping the last few years. Not her best effort, again...kinda cookie cutter. Ms. Lowell is beginning to sound self righteous...bad guys are overpoweringly evil, goverments (including ours) are corrupt and/or inept, officials desire to do good but are ineffective & puppets of crooked superiors. Only her heros (self discribed as operating in legal gray areas) can save the world...much ego Ms. Lowell?

The hero & heroi...more

Another thriller, this time about the international banking business and how some crooks use it to launder and hide money and use the money for international gun running and wars between tribes in Africa.

Although this book started out pretty slow for a thriller, it ended up being a good fast-paced story. Kayla Shaw is a private banker who gets sucked into a money laundering scheme by a client. Rand McCree has been trying to track this particular schemer for years. The two meet up to bring down an international gun running business. Two things impressed me about this book. First, there are not many women action/thriller writers out there and Lowell does an admirable job. Second, Lowell actual...more

Elizabeth Lowell's books combine the arts with the private mercernary types of St. Kildas Consulting. In this installment, Kayla Shaw, an international banker discovers that her client is illegally laundering money through her band and setting her up to take the fall. She becomes involved with Rand McCree, an artist and operative who is hautned by his twin's death during a St. Kildas job 5 years earlier. It is an action packed ride to the end to bring down the bad guy and keep Kayla alive. T...more

Kayla Shaw, a private banker, stumbles into a nasty world of international conspiracy and dirty money. Lucky for her, St. Kilda's Consulting is around to ride to the rescue. A fast paced, entertaining suspense novel and points to Lowell for accurately describing some of the murky regulations surroundinginternational banking. (A darned boring topic that I'm required to be certified
on four times a year, so I KNOW she got it right, LOL)

As typical of Elizabeth Lowell, this book is set in the St. Kilda Consulting universe and thus has reappearances from some lovable characters from The Wrong Hostage. It's very nice to see continuity in these things. The story itself is surprisingly tense and violent for this author, plucking certain heartstrings that could have been painful but turned out alright in the end.

An interesting romantic suspense but not mind-spelling. There were portions I skimmed through to find action. Maybe it is just me but I was bored in about half of it, although I did learn a great deal about laundering money and international crime and gunrunning.

A well written mystery romance with really evil bad guys and complex good guys. Lots of twists and turns in the somewhat predictable plot but what mystery romance doesn't have one of those? Good beach read.

Action thriller, suspense , quasi-romance. I've read other Elizabeth Lowell books that I thought were better. After reading "The Road" though, I needed something not so intense. This fit the bill.

OK - I have to say that the book started hard to read - very technical - but wow was it good!! Hang in there and you will really like these characters! Can't wait to read more of these series!!

I could not even finish this book as I had no idea what they were talking about 90% of the time and I refuse to believe there is some private army named St. Kilda solving the worlds problems.

Well-written and good suspense. I hope this kind of thing really doesn't happen in real life. I liked how Kayla chose her options and picked the "gray area" to get her out of the mess.

Quick paced romantic suspense that gets tense, somewhat violent, somewhat erotic, and moves through a 56 hour time span or so (unbelievable for the romance solidity).

Pretty good... I really like Elizabeth Lowell. It's high paced and action packed. The romance was a little predictable, but maybe that's why I like the author..

Both Innocent as Sin and The Wrong Hostage were like reading Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, except with smarter female characters and more exposition.

Really like the St. Kilda series. Great characters and fast paced plot. Doesn't take a whole lot of brain power to keep up.

I think this was the best of the series. Not as much detail to wade through and (IMO) it made the storyline flow that much faster.
