Very typical of the 'Cliff Hardy' series, easy to listen to and moves nicely. About the only thing wrong, as with all books. they become dated with the passing of the years. Still I enjoyed the narrator and the plot.

This does carry an 'M' rating for language as many of Peter Corris' books probably should.

THIS BOOK'S OPENING chapters form a gut wrenching introduction to a relatively unwelcome expose to an aspect of life that we all have to face. Hardy's ex wife makes contact out of the blue and all of the associated bitter memories and arguments rise to the surface of his conscience before he has the sense to agree to a meeting. It turns out that Cynthia (the former wife) has terminal cancer, and with only weeks left to live, wants Hardy to track down the abandoned daughter he didn't know he had ...more

Easy read.
A couple of things I didn't like.
1. When a person keeps the paper away from one's face they are far sighted, not short sighted.
2. I didn't like that short not at all dramatic scene in the floods. Considering it's impact on the book
That scene left me cold. There was just very little to it.

Peter Corris’s first novel was published in 1980 and he has been a full time writer since 1982. Through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, the Australian crime story was in the hands of writers producing mass market pulp novelettes, chief among them being Alan Yates (Carter Brown). Although written in Australia, these stories usually had pseudo American or British settings. Peter Corris is credited with ...more
