I liked this book about 40/60 - the least of all the McKettrick books I've read/listened to. The last book I listened to was McKettrick's Luck, with Jesse & Cheyenne. My complaint about that book was that their falling in love was too abrupt; there was no development of any sort of commonality or friendship, leading to no basis for a love relationship (imo). This book, the third in the series about the contemporary McKettrick cousins, was even more abrupt. Keegan and Molly argued constantly,...more
I really loved this one. Linda Lael Miller writes wonderful stories about Cowboys, both historical and Western. I got this book because I kept thinking I had missed out on it when it first came out back in 07. It's not listed anywhere in my Monthly Reads Journal or in any of the bins of previously read books I have. Anyway, I get into it and there are some parts that seem familiar but I'm just not sure because there were also other parts that I didn't recognize from any of the other McKettrick b...more
I love the way LLM writes. She is a writer for our time as well as the past. This book is one that was heart wrenching and heart warming as well. Keegan is a strong man that is trying to be part of his daughters life after a divorce that has left him skeptical of life and what it has to offer. When an old flame comes back to town to die from cancer Keegan is thrown for a loop when he meets Molly. Molly having had an affair with a married man and gave up the baby from that relationship, has been...more

Keegan McKettrick is a grumpy millionaire. His exwife sees him as a bank for life and is threatening to take his daughter to Paris, His family wants to sell his company, and his best friend and teenage squeeze is dying of Cancer. Molly is a literary agent who gave up her child for adoption--the adoptive mother has asked her to visit Indian Rock Arizona. Turns out Keegans friend and the adoptive mom are one in the same. Sykee will let Molly adopt Lucas if she marries Keegan McKettick. Makes for a...more
This is a modern-romantic-western.
The entire series is:
9. The McKettrick Way 2007
8. McKettrick's Heart 2007
7. McKettrick's Pride 2007
6. McKettrick's Luck 2007
5. Sierra's Homecoming 2006
4. McKettrick's Choice 2006
3. Secondhand Bride 2004
2. Shotgun Bride 2003
1. High Country Bride 2002
But, Books 6, 7 and 8 (maybe 9, but I have not read it) can be read as a "trilogy/set" all to themselves. I read Luck, Pride, and Heart, then went back to read the earlier books, that involved the relatives in 1800's...more

Really 4.5 stars, but I won't nit-pick too much. All three of these books were winners. I think I inhaled them rather than read them. I felt for Molly. I can't imagine the pain she must have felt in giving up her son to his father's wife. I can, however, imagine her joy and her willingness to do anything once given the opportunity to get him back.
Keegan's ex-wife should be strung up by her toes and never allowed near another child. Just saying.

It doesn't seem to matter that this installment in the McKettrick Men uses an abundance of an oft used plot devices to move this story forward, I still loved this story! Almost every possible, slightly plausible plot element is in here (divorce, custody battles, cancer, mistresses, death bed decrees, blackmail...the list goes on!)and somehow Linda Lael Miller not only kept them tied together but did it all in a way that I never rolled my eyes once.
Keegan McKettrick lost his parents as a teen and shared time with his cousins as he grew up until he was done with college. He was very lonely after losing his parents, and it affected him and the way he deals with everyday life.
His marriage didn't work out and now he has to share custody with an ex-wife who doesn't play fair. She just seems to want to make his life a living hell. And she doesn't seem to have their daughters best interest in mind.

I read this book because I kind of enjoyed the Christmas book I found at the library. I seem to always like stories of big, boisterous, close-knit families. This book was fine - not great. No more than usually unrealistic, but still... I have got to stop my junk reading kick and find more great books - like The Help.
This was the 3 book in the McKettrick's men series. I so enjoy reading Miller. Her books make me laugh and cry. Sometimes at the same time. I enjoyed the family interaction within this book. When I read her books I always feel better. Both Molly and Keegan needed a happy ending and I'm glad they got one.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, although it took me a month of Sundays to read, due to trying to revise one of my own manuscripts. Miller is one of my most favorite Western writers, and I always fall in love with her characters. If I have any complaints regarding this book, it is the supper fast way Keegan McKettrick and Molly fell in love, particurally when the two of them could barely stand to be in the same room with each other without spewing venom (which wasn't always nice on Keegan's part)....more
