A pretty solid 3 1/2 star read (damn this no half star policy!). Similar in theme to "Good Morning, Midnight" except much more traditional in its story telling. Also seemed very autobiographical...which is about the biggest non-statement I can give. Good reviewing!

It's weird to be rereading this right after The Good Soldier, since Quartet is assumed to be about Rhys's affair with Ford Madox Ford (see When the Wicked Man for his version of the affair--out of print, though, so Rhys won?).

Her inability to defend and define herself independently became frustrating, as did her financial reliance on everyone else but that is more a product of the time than the character herself I guess.

very involving book...though extremely depressing. I seem to have a thing for stories about victimized women right now!? Don't really know why
