Fantasy favorite!
Earth colony escaping technology for an agricultural economy, loses all contact, faces new unimagined dangers... I love this stuff, especially when the author doesn't cheat and gives us a different culture around the different environment.
If we colonized a planet where the natural environment enhanced innate psychic abilities, how long do you think it would take before people started arranging marriages based on what gift you had and what strenth? This book is one of a ...more

Another favorite from MZB and her planet Darkover, also taking place in the Ages of Chaos. The wonderful and tragic tale of Dorilys Aldaran who has a dangerous strain of "laran" (mind powers) -- there is romance and warfare, and as always Bradley's fascinating portrait of a complicated society. The covers of these books, I have to point out, are a bit ridiculous and pulpy, but ignore that. The storytelling is great.

Selective breeding can lead to dangerous psychic abilities. Set during the Age of Chaos on the planet of Darkover, this addresses politics, arranged marriages, women's roles, and out of control telekinetics.
Bradley is a top SF writer who deals with sex and politics, in a fantasy setting. One of Bradley's best Darkover books.

I loved this book. It amazed me how she wove several storylines together. I wonder how she did it. At first, I wondered what certain events had to do with anything, but In the end, everything was explained and made sense. I came to care about the characters and what happened to them.

Fascinating view of how scary specialized breeding and mental powers can be in a peek into the world of Darkover's past. Perhaps I'm partial, but I love the Darkover series- excellent science fiction.

Ok, the cover is incredibly lurid, but if you can get past that, it's a really good book! It provides some interesting background for the Ages of Chaos in Bradley's Darkover series.

One of the better Darkover novels I've read, though the grammatical errors are horrendous.

Quality scifi/fantasy with Zimmer Bradley's usual flair. And interesting and fun read.

I reread this one, when I found it an old box of paperbacks. One of my favorites.
