"A tale if vengeance, true love, and cannibalism"

This was a wild card book that I just happened to run across in the book store that just looked interesting. I picked it up and I am so glad I did. It was a very entertaining read and I will be looking up some of this author's other books.

Fun read, as all of Martinez's work. The witch protagonist was very well written and her minions are hilarious.

When i read the back of this book i thought it would be more like the light, yet in-depth, humorous novels of Terry Pratchett. I found i was wrong. I didn't even chuckle. Although the storytelling was certainly more on the light side and i don't mean that as a compliment. I had no feelings for any of the characters whatsoever. Most of the time i was skimming over everything just trying to find a point where i would be interested.
I believe the author should have built up her characters b...more

In my opinion, this is Martinez's best novel so far. The main character is an undead witch (whose name we NEVER learn) whose longing for true love and craving for living flesh are one and the same man. There's also a troll who comes apart at the seams, and Newt, a demonic duck who rips people to shreds. Very witchly stuff.

I read this over the last 3 days. It is very typical A. Lee Martinez, an undead romantic comedy. He is suprisingly creative. Easy to read, very entertaining, and thoroughly worth the time that will be wasted while you're reading it.

The only reason this book didn't get a one rating is because the Witches familiar is a demon duck.

I found this to be a boring sketch of an idea rather than a story. Martinez was trying to say something about the nature of belief and reality in the form of a somewhat spoofy fairy tale and he just simply fails miserably. Gil's All-Fright Diner succeeds for me because it a more fleshed out setting and a coherent story that develops characters you care about. Nameless Witch does none of these t...more

A death curse on the sixth child in a family causes one girl to be born practically immortal, with an aversion to light, and cannibalistic tendencies. Rescued from her family's basement by witch Ghastly Edna, this nameless witch gets caught up in an epic journey of vengeance.

Generally it was a good read, although it could be weird and hard to understand at times. It has a very original story and a very unusual heroine (or perhaps an anti-heroine). It was an fun romp, but nothing to engage a ...more

This book was fun. I recommended it to a friend tonight and described it like this: "Okay, so there's this girl who was cursed at birth and her parents keep her locked in the basement, but she's pretty cool with it, she's like, 'Whatever, I'd probably do the same thing if I were them.' Then she gets taken in by a witch and becomes her apprentice. Then she wanders to a village and is like, 'Oh drat, I think I have an appetite for human flesh." That's when he said, "Okay, stop right...more

I've read all of A. Lee Martinez's books and this one is the best yet. He made an awesome debut with Gil's All Fright Diner and In the Company of Ogres was not as good, but definitely not bad. This one is a perfect fantasy, with an epic quest for vengeance, tragic curses, amusing sidekicks, carnal

Irony, heartache, longing and a whimsical sense of humor woven together to create a wonderfully entertaining and unusual story about the trials of being an extremely attractive, undead witch with a craving for human flesh ... especially the one she falls in love with. Captivating and amusing, I could hardly put it down until I finished it.

I lovedGil's All Fright Diner, but In the Company of Orges was a lullaby. A quirky story that somehow combines into one story; a grouchy demonic duck, an enchanted broom (think of Terry Pratchett's enchanted luggage in the Discworld books), and a beautiful witch dressing herself in rags and a fake hump.

This was an excellent book. It was cute and funny and yet still had a good story. After reading this I really wanted to read more from Martinez. Its a great book to pull out when you want a quick read. Its also great to read in noisy or crowded places because it doesn't take anything to get into the story.

A fantasy novel about a cursed witch on a quest for vengeance. She is accompanied by a White Knight, a troll,an a and a demon in the body of a duck. Perhaps not as good as you'd hope nor as bad as you'd fear, but an entertaining and amusing little read.

The characters were fairly uninvolving... I didn't really care much what happened to them... SOme of the situations and dialogue were amusing, but as a whole, I just didn't care... I also thought the ending was fairly anti-climactic...

This was a really fun read from start to finish. I just loved Newt the duck, the witch's familiar. It would be great if they had additional advertures, but it doesn't seem that will be. A fun, light read.

Ok I have to admit I got the book because of the duck familiar, but I truly did enjoy the novel. I have yet to read any other books by this author but have reread this book many times and enjoy it each time.
