I've never really been a fan of this poem. After studying I understand the cultural context and that Pope was trying to show the benefits of classical learning, but it's just boring to me. I think that if I didn't have to study this I'd probably never have read it.

Dense, dense, dense. After three readings, I finally started to understand what was happening. Sort of.
But it's Pope, and it must be tackled, if only for your own academic good. But don't skip the footnotes. The footnotes are your friends.

Pope's a satirical genius, but the lampooning of contemporary figures who will soon fade into the wells of history doesn't really stand the test of time.
