Hogarth was a talented painter, printmaker, satirist, and editorial cartoonist, and this book contains pieces from his series of "moralizing" art: Harlot's and Rake's Progresses, Marriage a la Mode, Industry and Idleness, Beer Street and Gin Lane, and the Four Stages of Cruelty. He was an apt observer of the human condition, and his work was peppered with his biting sense of humor. Very highly recommended.

In the same way that Ben Franklin is our spiritual forebear this is our artistic forebear. Hogarth is one funny motherfucker.
