Happiness is not about what you will get, but what you have and do now.

reading it's nice... funny dan we already know what to expect. the story telling way-nya juga menyenangnkan... dan ceritanya simpel, though so, the end is nice-ly put dan put nicely...jadi, though dari pertama already knew that this sam is about to leave, since the pages since page 1 successfuly tickled dan menyentuh, jadinya, at the end really got sad for sam's departure, dan juga karena harus menutup halaman terakhir...hiks.

Beautiful yet a very touching story. About a little boy, Sam, who suffers acute strain of Leukemia. His teacher Mrs. Willis encouraged him and Felix, although Felix did nothing but complaint about everything, to write a book on their own.

Sam fills his book with list of things, questions about death, and what happened around him during those short period. For example his dad's reaction of his illness is portrayed like what most men is expected to react in such circumstances .. being strong a...more

I found this book while wondering around the children's section of Books Inc. The first thing that jumped out at me was the title. I'll often pick up books with catchy titles out of curiosity and this one really caught my attention. I read the inside flap, then flipped it open and started reading. I read twenty pages in the bookstore, then decided I had to get it.

Sam is an eleven year old boy living with leukemia, it's the third time it's come back and he knows he's going to die this time. ...more

When he was eight, the son of friends of mine went through a sort of John Webster phase, being much obsessed with death. His fondness for poking at road-kills and gazing at graveyards troubled his parents, of course, but not half as much as the interminable questions. What's it like to die? How do you know when you're dead? What happens afterwards? Why do we have to die anyway? These are "The Questions that Nobody Answers", according to Sam McQueen, the 11-year-old hero of Ways to Live...more

"BUY A BOOK BY ITS COVER!"

Superb story about a child in the last stages of leukemia. He tells his own story in the book he is writing, full of lists and questions and stories about his friend who also has cancer. Because this is told from the boy's point of view, it is not maudlin or heavy. It has a surprisingly light touch, but thoughtful, funny and, poignant.

I consider this a must read.

How lovely novel this is. Normally I don't read novel for young adults but I did liked this one very much indeed. The language is simply but absolutely beautiful; portraits as well; it's really impossible not to love Felix and entire Sam's family (and of course Sam). From the very beginning you are stunned by horrifying circumstance characters of the novel are facing with and feel gratefulness cause you're not from that story. Then you realize that there are numerous people in precisely the same...more

An 11-year-old dying of leukemia... written in a perfect 11-year-old voice and tackling all of the questions we don't want to think children are thinking about when they know we are dying. It was heart-breaking, but worth reading.

Written from the point of view of Sam as a journal style book of the last few months of his life. See, Sam has leukemia, and the chemotherapy hasn't helped. I really like Sam's voice in this piece. It feels very authentically his age and not at all like a perfect angel. He is very human and has fights with his mom and friends, plays warhammer and wants to kiss girls and go up the down escalator. His parents are real too, his mom a bit overprotective, his dad trying to ignore the fact that his so...more
